After returning to winning ways in Florence on Thursday night, Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the Portuguese Primeira Liga, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

In a game that can potentially decide which side of Lisbon the Primeira Liga crown will be heading to this season, Benfica and Sporting meet in the Derby de Lisboa at the Estadio da Luz on Saturday night in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Bruno Lage’s hosts are the second-highest scorers in the Primeira Liga, firing in 82 goals across their opening 32 matches, with an incredible 51 (62%) of them coming in front of their supporters.
The Eagles have found the back of the net in all 16 (100%) of their Primeira Liga clashes on home soil, scoring at least two goals in 13 (81%) of them – and three or more in an impressive 12 (75%) of them – and will be expected to breach a Lions defence that has kept just one clean sheet across their five matches against the top-five.
Rui Borges’s visitors are the leading scorers in the Portuguese top flight this term, slamming in 85 goals across their opening 32 matches, with 47 (55%) of them coming on their travels.
The Lions have failed to score in just two of their Primeira Liga fixtures this season,
– notching on multiple occasions in a remarkable 25 (78%) of them – and will look to breach a Benfica backline that has conceded in all four league clashes this season against ‘the big four’.

Sporting’s opening 16 away matches in the Portuguese top flight this campaign have averaged an eye-catching 3.75 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals landing in 13 (81%) of them.
What’s more, the previous six meetings between the pair at the Estadio da Luz have averaged an eye-catching 4.17 goals per game – with Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals banking in all six (100%) of them – and I’m hoping that trend continues tomorrow night in what promises to be a dramatic night in the Portuguese capital.
