Football Bet of the Day

After returning to winning ways in Denmark on Sunday, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the Europa League, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ Manchester United vs Lyon

🇪🇺 Europa League

⏰ Thursday 17 April, 20:00

Manchester United will look to keep their season alive as they welcome Lyon to Old Trafford on Thursday night in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Ruben Amorim’s hosts have scored 23 goals across their opening 11 Europa League contests this campaign, with 12 (52%) of them coming across their five matches at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have found the back of the net in all 11 (100%) of their Europa League fixtures this term, notching 2+ goals in eight (73%) of them – including in each of their last four in front of their supporters – and will be confident of breaching a Lyon defence that has kept just two clean sheets across their previous 10 Europa League clashes.

Paulo Fonseca’s visitors have scored 25 goals across their opening 11 Europa League encounters this season, with 13 (52%) of them coming across their five road trips.

Les Gones have failed to score in just two of their 11 Europa League matches this term, striking on multiple occasions in eight (73%) of them – including in 4/5 (80%) of their road trips – and they, too, will be confident of getting on the scoresheet against a United defence that has kept just two clean sheets in the Europa League, with those coming at home to PAOK and away at FCSB.

Bet of the Day

Manchester United’s opening 11 Europa League fixtures this season have averaged an eye-catching 3.27 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score paying out in nine (82%) of them, whilst Over 2.5 Goals has landed in five of their last seven – including in each of their previous three at Old Trafford.

Lyon’s opening 11 Europa League fixtures this campaign have also averaged 3.27 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score landing in six of their past eight – whilst six (75%) of them in that eight-game sample have also seen a minimum of three strikes – and I’m expecting these two sides to play out another high-scoring clash at Old Trafford on Thursday.
