Monday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me once more focus on the Nations League fixtures and I’ve picked out a match I like the look of goals at both ends. To boost the price up, I’ve added in a cards angle.
Iceland 🇮🇸 vs Israel 🇮🇱
🇪🇺 Nations League
⏰ Monday 13th June, 19:45
Two sides who come into this still unbeaten in their Nations League campaign’s go head-to-head in Reykjavík, as Iceland play host to Israel at Laugardalsvöllur.
Iceland made it successive draws to begin their Nations League campaign, as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Albania after drawing 2-2 in Haifa against their upcoming opponents. Arnar Viðarsson’s side had a poor World Cup qualifying campaign, collecting nine points from their 10 qualifiers, only finishing above minnows Lichtenstein in the table. Iceland have now found the back of the net in four of their last five competitive fixtures in front of their supporters, only failing to score against Germany. The Nordic nation have conceded in 10 of their last 12 competitive matches, with those clean sheets coming away to Romania and at home to Lichtenstein. In their last 12 competitive matches, Iceland have only failed to be carded in both meetings with Lichtenstein, whilst their opponents have been shown a card in 10 of those games.
After rescuing a point to draw 2-2 at home to Iceland in their Nations League opener, Israel once more came from behind last time out, this time to win 1-2 away to Albania. Alon Hazan’s side also failed to reach this years World Cup, as they finished third in their qualifying group, seven points behind second-placed Denmark. In their last 12 competitive matches, only Denmark (twice) have stopped Israel from scoring, with them scoring 27 goals in those fixtures. The Blue and Whites only clean sheet in that run came away to the Faroe Islands, with them conceding 23 times in those fixtures. Israel have been shown a card in 10 of their last 12 competitive fixtures, whilst their opponents have also been carded in 10 of those matches.
Bet of the Day
11 days on from their 2-2 draw in Haifa, Iceland lock horns with Israel once more and I’m expecting another entertaining encounter between the two in the Icelandic capital. Only Germany have stopped Iceland from scoring in their last five meaningful matches front of their own supporters and given Israel’s only clean sheet in their last 12 competitive matches came against minnows the Faroe Islands, I expect to see the hosts get on the scoresheet. However, Israel have scored 27 goals in that run, with only Denmark shutting them out in both their World Cup qualifiers and with Iceland only keeping two clean sheets in their last 12 competitive matches, I’d be surprised if the visitors also didn’t get on the scoresheet. To boost the price up, I’ve selected both sides to collect a card, something that’s landed in all of each sides Nations League fixtures so far, including in the reverse fixture.
