Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me once more focus on the Champions League qualifiers and there’s one match in particular that appeals to me for goals.

Dinamo Zagreb vs Bodø/Glimt

?? Champions League

⏰ Wednesday 24th August, 20:00

Dinamo Zagreb play host to Bodø/Glimt at the Stadion Maksimir in the second-leg of their Champions League play-off tie on Wednesday evening, with the Croatian side looking to overturn a one-goal deficit following their 1-0 defeat in the Arctic Circle last week.

Dinamo Zagreb began their qualifying campaign by edging past North Macedonian side FK Shkupi 3-2 on aggregate in the second round, before winning home and away against Bulgarian champions Ludogorets to complete a 6-3 aggregate success. Ante Čačić’s side have made a near-perfect start to their defence of their league title, as they currently sit top of the Prva HNL table, taking 16 points from a possible 18. Prior to drawing a blank in Norway last week, The Blues had found the back of the net in their opening 10 league and European fixtures, scoring on 31 occasions. Dinamo Zagreb have managed just one clean sheet across their opening 11 competitive matches this season, with that coming away to FK Shkupi.

Bodø/Glimt’s qualifying campaign began in the first qualifying round were they survived a scare against Faroese minnows Kí, before comfortably knocking out both Linfield (8-1) and Žalgiris (6-1) in the second and third qualifying rounds respectively. Kjetil Knutsen’s side saw their six-match winning run in the Eliteserien surprisingly come to an end on Saturday, as they could only draw 2-2 at home to struggling Ham-Kam, meaning they now sit seven points off league leaders Molde. The Yellow Horde have found the back of the net in 24/26 of their league and European fixtures this season, scoring on multiple occasions in 18 of them. Glimt have conceded in 10/12 of competitive fixtures on their travels this season, including in all three in Europe.

Bet of the Day

Bodø/Glimt are just 90 minutes away from reaching the group-stages of the Champions League for the very first time in their history but first they must finish the job against Dinamo Zagreb. Glimt won 1-0 in Norway in the reverse fixture last week but face a tough test away to a Dinamo Zagreb side who have a notoriously strong home record.

Ante Čačić’s hosts have already struck 31 times this season, with 22 of those goals coming in their six domestic and European matches at home and they’ll be confident of adding to that tally against a Glimt side that tends to struggle defensively on their travels. However, Kjetil Knutsen’s visitors have struck in 24/26 of their competitive fixtures this season and they too will be confident of netting against a Zagreb defence that’s kept just one clean sheet in their 11 competitive matches this season.
