Football Bet of the Day 23rd august

After a quiet start to the week, The Football Bet of the Day returns on Thursday and sees me focus on the South American World Cup Qualifiers, and I’ve highlighted one of the nations to claim a low-scoring victory.

🌎 CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers

⏰ Thursday 10 October, 22:00

Two clubs separated by just two points in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying table meet in the high altitude city of Quito as fourth-placed Ecuador plays host to seventh-placed Paraguay in a fixture that I’m keen to bs the hosts to claim a low-scoring victory.

Despite being handed a three-point deduction following document issues in the previous qualifying campaign, Ecuador find themselves in fourth position on 11 points in the CONMEBOL table after picking up 14 points from their opening eight qualifiers (W4-D2-L2).

The key reason for their success so far this campaign is down to their strong home form, with La Tri winning three of their opening four contests at their high-altitude Quito base (W3-D1-L0), only dropping points in a goalless draw against second-placed Colombia.

Paraguay gave their hopes of qualifying for their first World Cup since 2010 a major boost last time out as they defeated record world champions Brazil 1-0 at home, leaving them a point outside the top six.

However, Gustavo Alfaro will know his side will need to improve on their travels, with the Paraguayans winless in each of their previous 12 World Cup qualifiers on the road (W0-D5-L7), failing to even score a single goal in each of their past 11.

Bet of the Day

Sebastián Beccacece’s hosts are unbeaten in each of their previous 10 World Cup qualifiers on home soil (W6-D4-L0), including in each of their opening four this campaign (W3-D1-L0) – only dropping points in a goalless draw against an impressive Colombia (2nd) side – scoring four goals and more impressively, conceding just once.

Meanwhile, La Albirroja have failed to win any of their previous 12 World Cup qualifiers on their travels (W0-D5-L7), and even more remarkably, have failed to score in each of their last 11 – including a 2-0 loss on their previous visit here in 2021 – meaning I’m happy to back Ecuador to win a match featuring fewer than four goals.
