Football Bet of the Day

After making it eight winners from the previous nine in Dortmund on Sunday, Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me delve into the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ Bolivia vs Uruguay

🌎 World Cup Qualifying

⏰ Tuesday 25 March, 20:00

Seventh-placed Bolivia will look to boost their hopes of qualifying for a first World Cup since 1994 as they welcome fourth-placed Uruguay to the high altitude of El Alto in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Oscar Villegas’s hosts have scored 15 goals across their opening 13 World Cup qualifiers this term, with 10 (67%) of them coming at their high-altitude base.

La Verde have found the back of the net in each of their previous five World Cup qualifiers in front of their supporters – notching on multiple occasions in three of their past four – and will be confident of troubling a Uruguay defence that’s shipped nine goals in their previous four World Cup qualifying trips to Bolivia.

Marcelo Bielsa’s visitors have scored 16 goals across their opening 13 World Cup qualifiers this term, with six (38%) of them coming across their six road trips.

La Celeste have found the target in eight (62%) of their qualifiers – striking 2+ goals in six (46%) of them – and will be confident of breaching a Bolivia backline that’s kept just three clean sheets in qualifying – two of which against Venezuela (8th) and Peru (9th) – conceding a high 29 goals.

Bet of the Day

By a distance, Bolivia’s opening 13 World Cup qualifiers this campaign have averaged a high 3.38 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in 10 (77%) of them – including in seven of their past eight – whilst 11 (85%) have seen a minimum of two goals.

Uruguay’s World Cup qualifiers have averaged just 2.08 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals landing in only five (38%) of them – including in the reverse fixture in November – whilst eight (62%) of their qualifiers have seen at least two strikes.

This fixture has a recent history of high-scoring matches, with the previous nine World Cup qualifiers between the pair averaging a whopping 4.44 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in eight (89%) of them, with the exception being a 0-2 victory for Uruguay in 2015.

Therefore, I’m happy to back the Over 2.25 Asian goal line. This would mean if there are exactly two goals scored, we will lose just half of our stake, whilst three or more strikes will reward a full payout.

  • Over 2.25 Asian Goal Line
  • Pays 39/40 (Bet365)
