Expert football pools betting tips

It's the final weekend of the EFL regular season, and with play-off spaces, automatic promotion slots and relegation all on the agenda, it's set to be a thrilling weekend.

Less thrilling, at this moment in time at least, is the Premier League. Relegation and the title race are already boxed off, which means the only thing left to play for with four games of the season still to play is European qualification.

As ever, with our football pools tips this weekend, we're looking to accumulate as many points as possible on the scoring system below:

  • Score draw: 3 points
  • No-score draw (0-0): 2 points
  • Home or away win: 1 point

Our expert football pools betting tips

Derby County vs Stoke City (Championship)

One of the biggest games of the weekend comes from Pride Park, where Derby County will take on Stoke City. Both clubs can be relegated on Saturday, and a defeat for either side could prove to be fatal. On the flip side of the coin, it is quite feasible that a draw would see them both beat the drop zone.

If other results are making that scenario likely, then it wouldn't be out of the question for both teams to settle for a point, given what would be at stake if they push the boat out too much.

Watford vs Sheffield Wednesday (Championship)

While there are some huge games in the Championship this weekend, there are also a fair few dead rubbers and Watford vs Sheffield Wednesday falls into the latter category. Both of these clubs have had to settle for a midtable finish, and with one game to go, they are separated by just one point and one place in the league table.

After 45 games played, I feel that's a fair indicator of how evenly matched these two sides are, and with both sets of players already mentally on their holidays, this should be a nothing game where the spoils are shared.

Northampton Town vs Wigan Athletic (League One)

Northampton Town vs Wigan Athletic is another dead rubber, this time in League One. The two sides are separated by three places and five points, and both have been drawing matches regularly as the season has drawn to a close.

Wigan Athletic have drawn three of their last five matches, while Northampton have been frequent drawers through the campaign – they have drawn 14 of their 45 league matches. What's more, in last season's corresponding fixture, the match finished 1-1.

Rotherham United vs Peterborough United (League One)

This clash is effectively League One's equivalent of Watford vs Sheffield Wednesday in that it features two midtable teams with nothing to play for.

Draws have plagued Peterborough's end to the season, and too many stalemates have seen the Posh slip to lower-midtable, but with just one match to play, there's no real reason to believe that will change. They have drawn three of their last four matches in the division.

Rotherham United have also had their fair share of draws recently, drawing two of their last three League Two matches. The reverse fixture between these two clubs earlier in the season finished 3-3.

Grimsby vs AFC Wimbledon (League Two)

The League Two promotion race is going down to the wire, and although neither of these two sides can secure automatic promotion, they are both pursuing a place in the playoffs.

AFC Wimbledon currently sit in sixth position, but two places and two points behind are Grimsby, so this is a monumental clash in the context of getting out of League Two. A draw would be enough for the visitors, so they will be actively playing for it, while Grimsby have drawn three of their last four matches.
