A disastrous defeat against West Ham this weekend must have left Erik ten Hag wondering how his team had failed to secure anything from the game, and the writing was duly on the wall for the Dutch manager, who departed Old Trafford after a mostly miserable two-and-a-half year tenure.
As the next Man Utd manager odds market comes alive, we take a look at where the former Ajax man may go next, and the sort of odds that we feel could be expected if a ‘Ten Hag next club betting' emerges in the near future.
Our projected Erik ten Hag next club odds
Ajax |
3/1 |
PSG |
7/1 |
OGC Nice |
10/1 |
Ajax
Ajax's current coach Francesco Farioli only joined the Dutch giants in July of this year, but it has been another disappointing start for the club. Fourth in the Eredivisie and 11 points adrift of leaders PSV going into November is hardly the start fans would have wanted for their new manager.
Ten Hag was able to secure six trophies during his time at the Amsterdam club, including three league titles.
Remembered and revered by so many supporters of the club, it would be unwise to rule out a return to Ajax for ten Hag, who averaged 2.34 points per game during his tenure, as he looks to get his career back on track.
Paris-Saint Germain
Although a potentially unlikely choice, it is hard to discount ten Hag from consideration for the PSG job, as current manager Luis Enrique finds himself under some pressure. A disastrous start to the club’s Champions League campaign has seen him come under fire from supporters of the club, with only one win from their opening three fixtures, including only two goals scored.
Although it is widely agreed that PSG’s squad is not what it once was, football is a ruthless game, and even a manager of Enrique’s calibre can be let down by an underperforming team. With ten Hag’s last two managerial roles coming at clubs of great stature, it would seem that PSG could become an option for the Dutchman, should PSG's current manager be sacked as a result of continued poor European form.
OGC Nice
Formerly managed by the aforementioned Farioli, another potential French side that could be explored by ten Hag is Nice, who are also owned by Ineos. Naturally, this is one of the more speculative calls, but they will surely be a fascinating selection if or when Erik Ten Hag next club betting markets open.
Like ten Hag before the axe finally swung, Franck Haise has also found himself in the firing line in recent weeks due to a lacklustre start to the side’s campaign across all competitions. His side sit eighth in the Ligue 1 and 32nd (or fifth-bottom) in the Europa League’s new league phase, having accrued only one point in three matchdays so far.
Playing in European competition will be something for which ten Hag will certainly be searching when securing a new club, and a team with as much recent success as Nice could be the ideal destination.
Wish you every success on your new journey and chapter in life?
