Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr face off for the WBA (Super) lightweight title in a high-stakes showdown.
Davis, an undefeated knockout artist, looks to extend his dominance, while Roach Jr takes on his toughest challenge yet.
Here’s our Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach Jr prediction and analysis.
Tale of the tape – Davis vs Roach Jr
Davis enters the ring with an immaculate 30-fight record. The ex-National Golden Gloves champion has knocked out 28 of his opponents. German Meraz and Isaac Cruz are the only fighters who shared the ring with the Tank but heard the final bell ring.
Since he is a knockout expert, Davis has fought only 138 rounds of professional boxing since turning pro in 2013. He won the WBA lightweight strap in 2017 by beating Yuriorkis Gamboa. Four years later, he also became the WBA super lightweight champion, thanks to a win against Mario Barrios.
The likes of Rolando Romero, Hugo Ruiz, Jesus Cuellar, Leo Santa Cruz, Ricardo Nunez, Jose Pedraza and Liam Walsh have fallen victim to Davis’ KO fury. His punching power has drawn the line in most of his fights, so Davis will look for early openings to put the fight to bed.
Lamont Roach Jr (24-1-1, 9 KOs) steps up to challenge for the lightweight championship after winning the WBA super-featherweight belt. Roach Jr is one of the best defensive fighters. However, his knockout power is limited, with only nine stoppages in 26 fights.
That said, the former WBA super featherweight champion has shown that he can be a tricky opponent inside the ring. He probably gets the edge in ring IQ, but we will have to wait and see whether that’s enough to tame the indomitable force that Davis is.
Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach Jr hot tip: Davis to win via KO
Davis and Roach Jr are skillful boxers, but it’s Davis who has a clear edge in punching prowess. He has knocked out some formidable opponents throughout his career and it doesn’t seem likely that Roach Jr will manage to drag this fight to the distance.
The Reaper has lost only once in his career. Jamel Herring got the better of him six years ago. Herring is an incredible puncher, but Roach Jr will have to deal with even more firepower when he takes on Davis.
All things considered, we believe this is going to be another KO win for Davis.

Keys to victory
Bookmakers are confident in a Davis victory, but ruling out Roach prematurely would be an insult to his fighting pedigree. While Davis remains the favourite, Roach has avenues to exploit that could swing the result in his favour.
Davis – Apply pressure and close the show
Davis is at his best when he applies relentless pressure, cuts off the ring, and forces opponents into mistakes.
Roach Jr will likely try to box at range, so Davis must slip past the jab, get on the inside, and land powerful countershots.
We have seen ‘Tank’ start slow in the past, using the first few rounds to analyse his opponent. Once he finds his range, though, it is usually game over.
Roach Jr – Stay on the move and frustrate Davis
For Roach Jr, this fight is not about power—it is about making Davis miss, controlling the distance, and fighting a disciplined 12 rounds.
He will need to keep the fight at long range, using his jab to disrupt Davis’ rhythm. Roach should also stay off the ropes because Davis is lethal when he traps opponents.
If Roach Jr can force Davis to fight at his pace, he might be able to steal rounds. But it is a huge ask against such an explosive opponent.
Nice write up mate but at 1/5 Tank via Stoppage surely not worth the bet?
