Best French Open Bets Today
Shapovalov to Beat Hurkacz @ 2/1
You wouldn’t have picked this result this time last week. However, Canadian Denis Shapovalov is beginning to look quite sharp on the Parisian clay.
The former world No. 10 has picked up two solid wins over up-and-coming Frenchman Luca van Assche, and No. 25 seed Frances Tiafoe. He’s moving well, and beginning to look like the player that made the Wimbledon semi-finals a few years ago.
Hubert Hurkacz, on the other hand, is battling. He came to Paris having had one of his best-ever clay court seasons, complete with a dominant victory over Rafael Nadal. It’s been far from plain sailing at the French Open though, with the Pole taking five sets to get past Japanese qualifier Shinhito Mochizuki and another four sets to overcome young Brandon Nakashima.
Last time these two met, it went to five. Shapo’s playing better, and Hubi is tired, so we put this one in the Canadian’s favour and suggest betting on an upset.
Gauff to Beat Yastremska & Under 18.5 Games @ 5/6
American Coco Gauff is motoring along at the French Open, and we don’t see her slowing down in the second round.
Across her first two matches, Gauff has dropped just nine games. In the third round, she finds herself up against Dayana Yastremska, the No. 32 seed. Thing is, these two met just a month ago–and it wasn’t pretty.
Playing in the Round of 32 at the Madrid Masters, Gauff overcame Yastremska with ease, 6-4, 6-1. Given Gauff’s form in Paris, it’s hard to see the result being any different this Friday. Back her to win again, and keep the games under 18.5 too.
Rublev to Beat Arnaldi 3-1 @ 9/4
Rounding out our day six French Open tips is a bet on Andrey Rublev vs Matteo Arnaldi. This is a fascinating match up, with both in fine form so far this week.
We expect Rublev to get over the line in this one. However, Arnaldi is playing good enough tennis to come away with a pound of flesh from this clash. The Italian has seen off two Frenchmen already in Paris, dropping just the one set.
Arnaldi is at a career-high ranking for a reason, and should have the game to win at least one set here. The pair have met previously, with Rublev prevailing in two tight sets. Given Arnaldi’s improvements since then, it’s not unreasonable to expect him to win a set this time around.
Add in the fact that Rublev rarely wins his first three matches at Grand Slams in straight sets (just twice across his career), and this one looks on track for a four-setter.
