Best French Open Bets Today
Here are the bets we suggest making on day 12 of the French Open, where two women’s semi-finals are taking place.
Gauff to Win First Set Against Swiatek @ 10/3
Here us out! Anyone who is familiar with the head-to-head between Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff will know that Swiatek has won 10 of the pair’s 11 meetings. Each of these have been in straight sets as well.
However, we believe there’s some sound logic in jumping behind Gauff to win the first set here. The American will be playing with absolutely zero pressure or expectation on Thursday. Everyone will be seeing this match as a done deal, so Gauff has the freedom to come out and play whatever brand of tennis she likes. That includes taking plenty of risks–which she has to do, if she wants the outcome to be any different.
This will also be a challenging match for Swiatek to rouse herself for mentally. She will have seen rival and world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka crash out on Wednesday, and felt like she’s now got one foot on the winner’s podium. With such a skewed head-to-head, the Pole must find it hard to remain focused in her preparation ahead of the match with Gauff too.
All this to say, we think Swiatek could start slow, and Gauff could come out swinging. There’s a world–quite a realistic one, we believe–where this leads to Gauff claiming the first set.
Swiatek to Win From Behind @ 7/1
Flowing on from our prediction above, we still don’t see Swiatek losing this one.
The Pole showed against Osaka, where she saved a match point in the second round, that she’s a tenacious fighter with brilliant problem-solving skills. The Japanese former No. 1 had her beat 6-1 in the second set, yet Swiatek still fought her way back to win.
We expect a similar scenario here against Gauff. The American may well come out firing and get some early wins, but the bottom line is Swiatek should be too good and will get over the line in Paris.
Andreeva to Beat Paolini @ 4/6
The night’s second semi-final sees two women who are new at this stage of a Grand Slam, in Jasmine Paolini and Mirra Andreeva. We suggest betting on Andreeva here, given the form the teenager has been in.
On Wednesday, Andreeva fought her way back to defeat world No. 2 Sabalenka after losing the opening set. That takes some serious guts for a 17-year-old to do. Her explanation? She detailed afterwards in a press conference that she really doesn’t care what happens on court. Andreeva switches off her brain, pretends it’s not important, ignores her coach's prepared strategy, and just swings.
Coming into a maiden Grand Slam semi-final, it’s this kind of energy that will give Andreeva an edge. Paolini is liable to get nervous, while her Russian opponent has proved to be cool under pressure. Back the teen to get a win, and book her spot in the French Open final.
