Australian Open predictions Men's and women's outright winners

The first Grand Slam of the tennis season is only a few days away, so it’s time to dive deep into some Australian Open predictions. Read on to see whether Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka will win the trophies again or whether somebody else will take their place.

Men’s Australian Open preview

Odds to win

  • Jannik Sinner @ 5/4
  • Carlos Alcaraz @ 7/2
  • Novak Djokovic @ 9/2
  • Alexander Zverev @ 10/1
  • Daniil Medvedev @ 14/1

Jannik Sinner is the top seed in Melbourne and the odds reflect that. He’s by far given the most chances to win the event and it’s because he did it last year comfortably. Only Carlos Alcaraz has a realistic chance of beating him, while Novak Djokovic has better odds than reality would imply.

Djokovic hasn’t been at a Grand-Slam-winning level for a while, and it seems unlikely that he will find that level again. Zverev is the first dark horse because he nearly made the final last year. He’s been one of the better players besides Alcaraz and Sinner in recent times, though with him there are always questions.

When it comes to Medvedev, the Russian sits on the fifth line of betting, due to what he’s done at the event in the past, making three finals. However, as the Australian Open odds imply, there is little chance of him winning the event because he’s also not performed his best for a while.

Outright winner predictions: Men’s Australian Open

Sinner is our prediction to win the men’s Australian Open this year. First of all, we’re talking about a player who went 42-3 on hard courts last year, losing twice to Alcaraz and once to Andrey Rublev. Nobody really thinks Rublev will do much in Melbourne, and while Alcaraz has a chance to, he’s been historically bad down under.

When you add into the mix the fact that the best performing player in Melbourne historically – Djokovic – has tremendously struggled against Sinner, you simply have a formula that points towards more Italian glory.

He did it last year, he’s even better this year, and he loves to play here because the conditions work so well for him.

Men’s Australian Open winner prediction: Jannik Sinner @ 5/4

Our dark horse prediction is Zverev because the German has a really solid draw. He should be able to make the semi-finals with little issue. His serve is just too massive of a weapon to ignore. If he gets his serve to work as well as it can, then he will be very hard to break. That makes him the right candidate to pick in the case of a surprising Sinner upset come finals time.

Our dark horse to win the Australian Open: Alexander Zverev @ 10/1

Women’s Australian Open preview

Odds to win

  • Aryna Sabalenka @ 9/4
  • Coco Gauff @ 7/2
  • Iga Swiatek @ 4/1
  • Elena Rybakina @ 8/1
  • Qinwen Zheng @ 12/1

Aryna Sabalenka leads the women’s Australian Open odds, mostly because she has won the Australian Open two years in a row. She’s been very good for a very long time and this is the type of court where she can do most of the damage.

Coco Gauff is the rightful second favourite, as the American has seemingly taken a step forward judging by her performances early this year. She is very motivated and the WTA Finals have proven that she’s not far away from the top names like Sabalenka and Swiatek.

Swiatek is number three simply because she’s been very good for a very long time and is very consistent. Australia has been a struggle for her in the past though, but she’s certainly in the mix to win the trophy.

Outright winner predictions: Women’s Australian Open

Gauff seems to be set for a major breakout year in 2025. Not only has she looked amazing to start the year, but the American has seemingly finally figured out how to truly play to her strengths.

Being number one and winning multiple slams was never in question for Gauff, it was mostly when she was going to figure out some troublesome aspects of her game. It seems like she has tightened up the double faults and tendency to spray on her forehand wing, based on the last few months.

Beating Sabalenka won’t be easy, but Gauff has been somewhat problematic for her in the past, picking up a win in their most recent meeting. Overall, it’s a hugely valuable bet because outside of the top few names, there is almost no shot that she is going to lose to anybody, meaning a deep run is highly likely.

Women’s Australian Open winner prediction: Coco Gauff @ 7/2

Dark horse bets in women’s tennis are somewhat misleading. Our dark horse bet is Swiatek, but that’s a bit strange, considering she’s one of the betting favourites. Still, not having performed as well in Australia historically makes her unlikely to win it, hence that status.

In any case, Swiatek at her best is still the most complete tennis player in the world, and should she somehow find that level, she can easily win this event.

Our dark horse to win the women’s Australian Open: Iga Swiatek @ 4/1
