IT was a no-bet Thursday for me although Steven Fletcher landed the one gamble I was thinking about.

The Scotland star celebrated his full Marseille debut with a backheel assist and goal in their 2-0 French Cup win at amateurs Tresallic.

At this rate French fans will be wondering if the on-loan Sunderland striker is the new Zlatan – they'll soon find out he's more like Zoltan .. Zoltan Gera.

As is always the case I'm working towards my Saturday column and tips and I won't be able to study Friday's games until that work is done.

It's a shame because there are good betting opportunities most Friday and you're likely to see good tips from Greg Browning and many others.

Burton look a reasonable shout to beat Chesterfield in English League One and there should be goals when Dundee meet St Johnstone but it's not an easy match to predict and again Greg may put up his thoughts. I've posted a separate preview with my main tip being both to score.

Struggling Carpi challenge Roma in Serie A, it's Mainz v Schalke in the Bundesliga, Sporting Gijon v Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, Rennes v Angers in France and a big one in Portugal between Benfica and Porto.

And of course don't forget about the goal-laden French and Dutch lower-league encounters

I've managed to write my Saturday columns quicker than expected – mainly because in the Record tomorrow I'll be focusing on the Super Sunday games at Arsenal and Man City and they were easy to do.

That means I've had a little time to look at tonight's games and for the Super Single I'm going with Benfica who are back at the top of the Portuguese League and in much better form than fierce rivals Porto.

Benfica have won 11 in a row, scoring 36 goals, while Porto have lost six times in 12 outings since Christmas including a terrible 2-1 home defeat to Arouca last weekend.

Everyone including myself and Greg have tipped goals at Dundee v St Johnstone and as someone says that means it's going to finish 0-0. I hope not and with all the faith put in the game I have to start a goals treble at Dens.

I'm adding Utrecht at a Cambuur side who have lost five in a row and conceded a Dutch League high of 57 goals. And with time still short I'm nicking Sean Ireland's Linfield tip based on his write-up. I'm sure he won't mind.

I like Burton at home to Chesterfield but maybe they're a little short and Pescara have also been tipped a few times on the site as well as goals at Sporting Gijon.

Zoltan Gera was a decent player at Fulham Mr F!

Antonio Sanabria will not feature for Gijon tonight. Sanabria has 10 of their 24 goals this season so will likely be missed, as will their best defender in Bernardo. Vallecano will be without a few players themselves, but despite their terrible defensive form, they know how to control a game and rank 5th in La Liga in possession. If they can come away with a point they’ll stretch a small gap above Gijon who have won two of their last three, but I think the Roma loanee could be a big miss for the home side. Hopefully no backfire and they even get the 3.

    Rayo Vallecano DNB @ 13/20 @ Marathon – 4 points

    Tonight Italian Seria B.
    Pescara v Vicenza.
4 out of 5 Pescara games this year have went over 2.5
The h2h last year was 3 out of 4 over 2.5
The three games that did go over all finished 2-2
    So over 2.5 is 11/10
    Btts is at evens
    And over 3.5 is 11/4
I think there is money to be made here

pescara scored in last 16 homes, scoring 2 or over in 11 of them, average 2 goals per home game and are bang in form and top of last 6 game form table.

Vicenza only won 2 of last 14 so it’s a case of will they grab a consolation.
Last 17 aways they netted in 12 of them. So have 66% of scoring.

Only bets for me here are
      Pescara over 1.5 goals 19-20

    • warktheline 8 years ago

@joe, Creteil have failed to keep a clean sheet in all bar one home game this season! Tours away form in last 5-6 games have produced goals, although their goal scoring in these games has been patchy. Prior to this, they were involved in low scoring away days.Hope this helps!

    Afternoon gents

It’s the SPL and French Ligue 2 for me tonight and two leagues I’m
    familiar with!

    Auxerre v Nancy KO 7pm

As I often say playing at home counts for a lot in France and Auxerre will be looking to continue their great form at home! Despite the run they are on they have still conceded in their last 7 at home and none of those teams were as strong as todays visitors! Nancy sit second top and will be looking to close the gap on Djion! Both to score here should have a good chance especially given the way Auxerre are sc and conceding!

Back Both Teams to Score 19/20 ( WIlliam Hill) (NAP)

Dundee v St Johnstone KO 7.45pm

If I cast my mind back two months to the start of December, we were probably the form team in Scotland, fast forward to now, we are without a win, put out of both cups and just can’t buy a win at the moment! Much of that is down to the fact we are defensively poor this season, I can count on one hand how many clean sheets we’ve had! Dundee wil score tonight that I can be sure of! We’ve found our shooting boots in recent matches and I fancy us to score tonight! I’m with Mr F that BTTS looks a good shout but I’m going to side with gosls at a fairly decent price! We will win at some point but if we do we’ll need to score at least two and dundee are more than capable of scoring 2 against us so goals it is for me

Back over 2.5 match goals 11/10 (NB)

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

Greg, cheers – hope there’s goals at Dens and you enjoy the game.

    Benfica vs Porto

    Konstantinos Mitroglou ATGS 12/5 **NAP**

The former Olympiakos and Fulham striker is in a rich vein of form right now netting seven goals in five games with at least one goal in each. Last time out he scored a hatrick against Belenenses. I watched the game and noticed that he was always present in the 18 and 6 yard box’s as play was developing from either flank, as any decent predatory striker should. This movement will always him a good chance of scoring the resulting chance. It was wave after wave of attack away at Belenenses finishing 5-0 but quite fankly Benfica could’ve easily scored ten. Meanwhile Porto lost 2-1 at home to Arouca, something which cannot be good for morale when you’re coming into a massive game against your bitter rivals.

I’ve just been catching up on the points brought up in the aftermath of Derby County relieving Paul Clement of his duties and its quite clear that my thoughts have not exactly been isolated just to myself. The fans and the board alike are quite united in saying £25 million has been spent and first Paul Ince’s signature broke the club transfer record at £4.5 mill, then shortly after again with Johnson’s signature at £6 mill.

I’ve been saying this past few months that Derby don’t have a ” plan B “, that has been echo’d around the Ipro this week along with ” the opposition have sussed out how to play against us, yet we still stick to the same tactics for the latter stages of matches “. We’ve not been mixing it up and whilst as they’re saying ” The Derby Way of football ” has been missing this past season and a half, the team are trying to rediscover it. I’m talking about the regular 3, 4 and 5 goals we could put past most of the league and lay down some markers for the rest of the league to drool over.

I’ve said all along that the balance of the team is/has been all wrong with players not knowing their individual roles and sticking to them. This has been evident for so long and the manager has been rigid in Butterfield/Thorne and Johnson in the centre of the pitch.

Hendrick has not been getting regular enough football for me and the 3 pre-mentioned players are all very much too similar to eachother. Bryson who I personally have been screaming at to be back in the starting 11 came on for 70 mins in the last game and he got a goal. I expect Derby’s stand in manager – Darren Wassell ( academy team manager ) will opt for Bryson and Hendrick back together in the team, they offer that nice balance of attack/bullyish element we need around the centre circle.

I also made a very valid point about the old boss handing the captains armband to Chris Baird who has played just 8 times for the side. The armband has gone back to Keogh – I’m still not a fan of him, I’ve never rated him, but at least the captain is more than likely to be in the starting 11 instead of warming the bench.

Darren Wassell is highly likely to keep the job until the end of the season, he knows the squad, whether he manages to keep us in the top 6 come May might be a step too far for him, but the pressure is well and truly on for Derby – you see, they’ve spent £25 mill, and unless they get promotion, we COULD wind up under a transfer embargo come the end of the season.

On a small plus, 2 draws from our last 2 games is a small bonus, it stems the flow a bit, and if memory serves me right Derby have lost only 4 or 5 games all season, that is the 2nd best in the league. This next 2 -3 matches are going to have to see a marked improvement for us to see those dire draws turned into wins. It’s still all to play for and a new manager and a fresh set of eyes might be the very thing we need to put the proverbial boot up a few players backsides.

I know Mel Morris said around xmas that he wants Clement to create a dynasty at Derby like Alex Ferguson did, but his patience wore thin after just 33 games. Sir Alex managed Man Utd 1500+ times, so the man with the money is not afraid to swing the axe.
My greatest fear is that if Derby don’t get promotion, we MUST sell to balance the books otherwise the ffp’s will kick in. Having practically a full house week in week out is not enough to balance the books, something has to give. My fear is Derby will cash in their greatest asset in Will Hughes, the big teams in Europe have been sniffing around him for 3 seasons and the 12-15 mill we’d get from him would put us back in the black. Hughes dream team is the club he’s supported all his life – Liverpool. Liverpool have a huge void in their team with Gerrard leaving and I know Will Hughes is good enough to fill those shoes. He gets into a big big club and he’ll be a shoe-in for a regular England starting 11. Lets just hope though that he plays premiership football for Derby and gets his first England cap whilst a Ram. That would add another 7-10 mill to his price tag.

Burton have been patchy in their last 4 games (W2 L2) but have the best defensive record in the league whilst Chesterfield have the 3rd worst defensive record and have lost 3 on the spin so can’t see Chesterfield getting anything from this

Roma have won their last 3 whilst Carpi have D2 and L2 in their last 4, this one could go close though but I fancy Roma to take the points

Bad day yesterday with 3 losing bets on the red and yellow card market in the lazio v Verona game, I was expecting a bad tempered game but it turned out to be one of the most placid Italian games I have seen in ages. Oh well never mind.

No bet from me today as I’ve not had time to look at the games properly but I’m going to post my bets for tomorrow incase I don’t get time.

Two games in the English national league

    Halifax v forest green

WDW market Halifax 5/2. Forest green 11/10. Draw 9/4

Forest green sit 2nd in the table whilst Halifax are 20th and at first glance it looks like an away banker 11/10 is good price for an away win but Halifax are in better form than their league position suggest they are unbeaten in 10 games now and there last defeat was in November, forest green don’t have a great record at Halifax 2004 the last time they won there. For me I don’t see Halifax losing but have they got enough to win I’m not sure Halifax double chance at 3/4 looks the best bet.

Now what this game wil have is goals, Halifax have scored 43 goals this season for a team in their position is high the problem they have had is conceding 63 goals but at home they have score in 14 of the 16 games they have played, Forest green have scored in every away game this season and have only failed to score twice all season I’ll be playing in the BTTS market 4/6

I also like the over 2.5 market 4/5
Both. Teams have been involved in 18 games this season that have had more than 2.5 goals.

    Wrexham v Bromley

WDW market Wrexham 13/20 Bromley 17/4. Draw 11/4

A very difficult game to call in my opinion, Wrexham are too short at 13/20 having only won once in their last 9 losing 5 of them and Bromley have only won once in their last 5 games losing the last 3 so possibly the draw is the safest bet at 11/4 but saying that Bromley don’t really do draws they just win or lose but if they returned to their early season form 17/4 is massive and could be worth a small punt.

Once again though what this game should give us is goals Wrexham have had 98 in their games and Bromley an impressive 105 goals, for Wrexham 20 games have seen 3 goals or more and for Bromley 21 games, in wrexhams last 10 home games 9 of them have had more than 3 goals so I like both the over 2.5 @ 7/10 and BTTS @ 7/10.

    Suggested bets

    2 pts BTTS double @ 1.83/1 *NAP*
    1 pt over 2.5 goals double @ 2.06/1
0.5 pt BTTS & Halifax win
    BTTS & Bromley win
    Double @ 50/1 (long shot)

My fun bet for the weekend

    0.5 pt all premiership games sat/ sun over 9.5 corners @ 82.9/ 1

Finally a nice card and I think you have found the best bet in it with your super single Mr Fixit.

I also fancy Pescara to bag over 1.5 in the Italian Serie B. They have bagged 2 or more in their last 4 games totalling 11.
There opposition Vicenza conceded 2 last time out against Lanciano who are just one place off bottom of the table.
Available at evens at most places.

0-0 at half time but a lot of games in the Kuwait league usually see goals after the interval. Al Arabi have won five straight whilst Al Qadsia are top of the table. Both are scoring well.

Game been tipped already but looking at a different market I think

    Universidad Catolica vs Union Espanola

    Catolica to win & btts @ 2.75

Catolica have won 8 and drawn one of their last 9 home games and have conceded in 5 of these matches, including all of the last 3
Union Espanola have scored and conceded in each of their last 6 away games and although they have only lost 2 of these games, I’m hoping Catolica’s current good form with 10 scored at home in their last 3 will see them win

    • hampy 8 years ago

Fully agree on this bud. Catolica scoring 4 goals in a few games lately got to fancy them to win and espinola definately capable of a goal or two.

    bet recap

    Double
Warrenpoint to beat Ballinamallard @ 11/10..result 3-0 win
Linfield to win away to Portadown @ 3/4..result 2-1 loss
    Double fails , Sorry.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

sean ireland, if St Johnstone had scored I might have banned you for beating my treble.
Only joking – the stats you posted looked great but doesn’t always happen.

    • sean ireland 8 years ago

      Mr F i was keeping an eye on the St Johnstone game and was relieved they didnt score to be honest as i didnt want to see 30 posts from guys in here blaming me for the top treble loss.Dunno how you,greg,Jordan,john b cope with the pressure at all,id be in bits ;) Anyway you picked the wrong pick Warrenpoint stormed it yetagain at a far better price than Linfield….on to tomorrows losses now. By the way cant keep my eyes off Skybets price boost of 2/1 for West Ham to score 2+ at a Norwich side losing last 6 all comps and conceding 2+ each time/3+ in 5/6.Hammers are decent away and see no reason why it hasnt a good chance { SUPERSINGLE MR F????}

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

sean ireland, you’ve got to pick them as you see them – and as long as you’re honest about it there’s no problem.
I’ve picked two Super Singles but not West Ham. They should win but Norwich will be battling for their lives.

  57. scott 8 years ago

Gent have won 5 of their last 7 with the most recent loss coming away to league leaders Brugge whereas Mouscron are 2nd bottom of the table after just 2 draws from their last 7

    Burton
    Roma
    Gent
Treble pays a fraction over 3/1
