IT was a pretty dramatic opening day at Baltusrol with two of the favourites Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy struggling badly on a day of fairly low scoring.
While Jimmy Walker shot a five-under 65 to assume the lead big Dustin fired the ball over the place as he finished with a 77 and will do well to make the cut.
McIlroy's problems were again on the greens and he missed 13 birdies putts inside 20 feet as he failed to pick up a shot in a round of 74.
Open champion Henrik Stenson one of Ace Venturer's picks – is in contention after a 67 and world No.1 Jason Day shot 68 despite saying he was running on empty.
Some bookies have Stenson as outright favourite while other side with Day. From what I saw yesterday the Swede will be right up there and is 11-2 at Coral who make Day 5-1.
Walker and Jordan Spieth, who fired a 70, are 16-1 across the board while McIlroy is now a 50-1 chance.
Johnson beat my twoball treble yesterday and I'm having another go today.
