FOR the second week running the European Tour stays in China for the Volvo China Open.
The par-72 Topwin Golf and Country Club in Beijing hosts the tournament for the first time and I am having to decide on whether to pick guys who have rested up over the last week or ones who played in the Shenzen and had to endure the long fourth round due to the weather.
I’m sticking with a couple of guys who finished T4 last week and have proven records in this part of the world.
Everything I said about Scott Hend stands again this week. He once again showed how much he seems to love playing in Asia.
He put up a good show and although had a slight blip on Saturday finished on Sunday with a superb 66 which put him well in the mix. Thankfully he didn’t play Monday as he had finished before the darkness closed in so he’ll not be affected by the extra day.
Last week he was priced around 50-1 and got me a good return but I can’t believe this week he is around 33-1 thought he’d be a lot shorter. I’m backing him to win his eighth tournament in Asia since 2012.
The other player is 2014 champion Frenchman Alexander Levy who last year followed up with a T3. He has a good record in China, playing eight times and finishing in the top four four times. Levy has had an up and down season so far but had a good second in the IPSA Handa Perth International in February. A T14 in Valderrama was followed up with a T4 at the Shenzen International last week and could improve again this week.
