Yesterday’s Nap certainly didn’t give us a run for our money. Not the first to do that and sadly, won’t be the last. We move on to Sunday’s action.
Huntingdon - 16:14 |
Orchestra |
8/1 |
As is often the case when it comes to Sunday, there’s not a great deal to choose from today, though the last race at Huntingdon catches the eye from a betting point of view, not least of all because Orchestra looks to be available at what I would describe as a user-friendly price.
Yet to win over obstacles, the four-year-old remains lightly raced, while he comes into this contest having recently wound up with a spin on the flat, for a trainer who has found some form of late.
Hurdles efforts have not been without promise
He hasn’t got the job done yet, but for my money, he’s delivered several efforts that suggest he’ll be up to taking a prize of this nature before too long.
Prior to his return at Kempton a month ago, which was likely intended as an outing to blow the cobwebs away and nothing else, the gelding ran respectably at Uttoxeter in June, when he wasn’t beaten far into fifth. That contest was definitely better than this, as was the race in which he finished a close-up second a month earlier.
A repeat of either of his last two efforts over timber would likely be enough to see him go close in what is clearly a lesser contest, while this slight step up in trip may just play to his strengths too.
Courtesy of his most recent effort at Uttoxeter, which came on ground similar to today’s, he rates very highly in this field for speed figures, which as far as I’m concerned, is always a positive.
It’s also positive to report that Fergal O’Brien has a pleasing record at Huntingdon, winning with just over 20% of the runners sent to the Cambridgeshire track in the last year. That stat alone makes odds of 8/1 look a little chunky.
All in all, the yet-to-be-fully exposed gelding, who has shown enough promise to suggest he can perform well here, looks too big at 8/1. If you’re looking for a slice of value, then at the time of writing, this lad offers it.
Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day (after 55 Naps) has a running P/L of +£20.00 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).
For those interested, here’s a monthly profit and loss breakdown (again based on a £10 level-stakes example):
September 2024 = +£34.00
October 2024 = +£6.00
Well done mate only on each way 8-1 took this morning do me mate
