Yesterday’s runner can be described as a no-show, that’s for sure. We move on to Saturday, where there is no shortage of racing to get stuck into, including an attractive card at Ayr, with both the Silver and Gold Cup to get excited about.

Following the feature race at the Scottish venue, the 16:10 catches the eye, not least of all because this may just be the perfect opportunity for The Caltonian to do the business.
Linda Perratt’s runner hasn’t won this season, but he hasn't been given an overly aggressive campaign, while most of his efforts have contained more than a hint of promise.
He’s twice placed over six furlongs at Ayr this term, while he wasn’t disgraced when finishing fifth (of 13) at Southwell last time out, doing his best work late on.
Prior to that Southwell effort, he kept on for third (of 14) over Newcastle’s six furlongs, doing so from higher in the weights and in better company than he’ll keep today. That form probably shouldn’t be ignored.
Combination of step up in trip and step down in grade could do the trick
Not only is the gelding stepping up in trip, but he drops down in grade slightly having run in a Class 2 last time out. This is a Class 4, where he can definitely get involved. After all, his two previous Class 4 runs resulted in a second and a win.
What’s more, his last six runs over seven furlongs have yielded two wins and two seconds, so don’t be surprised if the return to this trip sees him go well.
It’s also worth noting that Callum Shephard has an eye-catching 25% strike rate when riding for Linda Perratt, who is no stranger to success at Ayr.
All in all, there’s plenty to like about this one, especially with odds of 15/2 on offer. For my money, he ticks more than enough boxes for such a price to go down as generous.
