Best US Open betting tips for day 8
One of the best bets to make at the US Open today is backing Daniil Medvedev to continue his stellar performances in New York. The other has us picking between Australians who have also shone at the event so far. Keep reading to find out what they are.
Daniil Medvedev to win 3-0 @ 11/10
Nuno Borges has been really solid at this year’s US Open. While his serve is very hard to break, it’s also very doable. The problem for him is the matchup with Medvedev, which doesn’t favour him at all.
Borges is a typical baseliner who wins the majority of his points on the baseline, but that’s a bad tactic against Medvedev because the Russian is a literal wall. You can’t beat him easily from there, and even the drop shot doesn’t work, which is what Borges goes for when he can't break through from the baseline.
Overall, it’s just a bad matchup for Borges, as Medvedev has been spectacular at this event. He’s not serving as well, which leaves some minor chances for Borges, but we expect he will be serious enough to win in straight sets, making this bet a valuable one.
Thompson to beat de Minaur @ 27/10
Alex de Minaur played an incredible match against Dan Evans, but we don’t think he’ll have as easy of a time against compatriot Thompson. The Aussie is a far tougher opponent and this time he’s playing really well.
De Minaur isn't 100%, per his own words, with the world No. 10 still recovering from a hip injury sustained at Wimbledon. Thing is, he’s moving about as well as he has ever moved, so that might be some gamesmanship from him. He is, however, playing much more aggressively than he ever has, and that’s the problem.
Thompson is so good at dealing with that, with his various slices and excellent court coverage. De Minaur won’t have an easy time breaking down Thompson, and if he’s truly not 100%, this is a really huge challenge.
Expect Thompson to upset his countryman and make his way through to a maiden Grand Slam quarter-final at the US Open.
Overall, we have two picks that are based on current trends and the general form of the players. It makes for a valuable play. What hot tips or betting opportunities do you see at the US Open this Monday?
