Saturday was a day to forget really, even though we got a decent priced winner in Cap Du Nord. I had a lot of hope for yesterday's selections, and it didn't go as planned. Apologies for yesterday, but hopefully today's sole selection will deliver the goods.
Naas 2:00
CASH BACK is my only bet of Sunday, and the price available isn't a surprise, and a drift wouldn't surprise me either, as his recent form isn't great.
Paul Townend takes the ride instead of Blackbow, and though that might be a surprise to some, I don't think it is. Blackbow hasn't really shown his potential as a jumps horse since looking like a quality bumper prospect. His form is tied in with Captain Guinness, with the collateral form of finishing behind Dunvegan, which both of them did on recent starts, and I think they are closely matched, with Blackbow probably coming out on top due to the penalty the Henry De Bromhead horse carries. However, I do think Cash Back beats them both.
Cash Back could enjoy an easy lead of things, and in a small field race like this, that can be crucial. Things can generally get tactical in races like this, so the fact that a horse who likes to race from the front, can be an uncontested lead, is a positive. He has won at this track before, when he managed to dictate a race, and I'm hoping that will play out similar today. The last two times over fences he has been ridden with restraint, and that doesn't suit this horse, as he was running with a choke out and he pulled hard. When a horse pulls as hard as he did, they can't get into a rhythm as they are fighting the jockey, which means they meet fences on bad strides and it effects their jumping. Paul Townend is a quality pilot, and should hopefully manage to get this horse into a rhythm and jumping fences accurately. The ground shouldn't be an issue, and the 7lb he received from Captain Guinness is a big help against that specific horse. Darasso is an interesting runner in this. He has been campaigned as a hurdler for a long time, so it's strange to see him back over fences. He could be the one to keep an eye on.

Interesting card at naas and what happens in some of the earlier races could give clues as to how later races will shape up.
3.00 Hiaou is my antepost pick for the Martin Pipe so I’m kinda hoping he doesn’t win but still runs with credit, however, based on what he’s achieved so far has every chance of doing so.
Lto he beat Goven who won his maiden next time by 8L. 3rd that day was Killer Mode who finished ahead of Flame Bearer (current fav) on his previous start. The 4th also won nto. Mullins Ha’D’or could be open to improvement having won lto but he was 1/4 to do so so the form is in the unknown category.
4.00 Micro Manage is the current fav but was beaten 12L by Flame Bearer (3.00 fav) and has yet to deliver over hurdles in 3 starts having at one point being touted as Mullins main horse for the Supreme last year. He takes on Highland Charge who lto was runner up to Sir Gerhard at Christmas (2nd beaten 8L). His previous race he was 2nd to The Goffer who won a Grade 3 on Thursday so imo has by far the best form in the race.
4.30 Bring on the night has a Supreme entry so would want to be winning this to cement his entry, but I’d be weary of backing him fto against Snake Oil with the Barry Connell yard in such good form (3-5 last 14 days).
5.00 As I said the Connell yard are in great form and he runs Big King here and I think with 5 places on offer (6 with sky) is a cracking ew bet at 6/1. Stormy Judge is thrown in as he runs off 25lbs lower back over hurdles but it doesn’t always work out when horses switch back.
5.30 Sandor Clegane should cement the DRF form and win the bumper but at odds on it will be just a watch for me.

Even though Highland Charge made a horlicks of the last he still managed to get up and win 👍
Big King made progress through the field but was given far too much to do.
Bring on the night certainly has an engine but will need to learn to jump. Once he does learn should have a bright future.
