JACOB HANSEN is Unibet's WTA tennis tipster and he landed two tips out of three yesterday for a nice profit.
Here are his latest picks for Wednesday's women's action at the US Open.
G. Muguruza v K. Muchova
It can sometimes be a bit of a task knowing what to make of Garbine Muguruza, but at least one knows that when she gathers herself she is capable of being perhaps the best of the bunch. She was certainly excellent in the first round where I actually thought she could get into trouble.
Playing Zhang, against whom she’d twice before had long three set encounters, Muguruza absolutely destroyed her opponent, this time relinquishing just three games. She now faces Muchova, who has come through the qualies and has certainly had great luck with the draw. Until now she has faced players ranked 107, 230, 210 and 98, respectively. It is a massive step up in quality to now face a two-time Grand Slam-winner.
Only twice in her career has Muchova faced an opponent who was even in the top 50. The first time was back in 2015, where she lost by to Mihaelea Buzarnescu, the second time was in 2016, where she lost to Maria Sakkari.
Last year, when Muguruza reached the fourth round of the US Open, she won her three matches with eight, nine and 10 games to spare, and if she can beat a player ranked 34th in the world right now, it should be possible to cover the handicap and win by at least six games against Muchova.
C. Giorgi v V. Williams
Camila Giorgi is the kind of player that often raises her game when up against the bigger players. Remember Wimbledon this year where she took a set off Serena Williams in the quarter-final, and at French Open, where she held match points against defending US Open-champion Sloane Stephens, who went on to reach the final in Paris.
She has played Venus Williams once before, back in the Australian Open in 2015, where it took Venus three sets to conquer Giorgi, and this could easily go long again. Venus is on her home turf, while Giorgi will relish the chance to perform on the big stage.
