After a surprise exit to Valencia saw former West Brom boss Carlos Corberan depart his role at the Hawthorns, the market has now opened as to who his replacement will be.
Corberan had West Brom sat in sixth place, just inside the Championship play-off spots, but the allure of managing in the Spanish top flight was too good of an offer to turn down for the Spaniard.
Corberan had struggled to get the Baggies scoring at times, enduring a period of 10 draws in 11 matches, five of which were goalless stalemates. Thus, it comes as a surprise that recently dismissed Everton boss Sean Dyche has entered the market at 12/1.
However, many other managers are vying for the top job at the Hawthorns, as West Brom have stood themselves in very good stead to mount a play-off push and cement themselves as promotion contenders.
Current favourites
Tony Mowbray – 1/1
The current favourite is former Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray, who has a proven track record at Championship level. His most recent job was a short stint with Birmingham City, but a bowel cancer diagnosis cut his tenure with the club much too short.
However, now back in the fray, it is safe to say that Mowbray knows how to manage in the second tier. He had also already managed West Brom between 2006-2009, and so would be making a sensational return to the club after 15 years away.
Mowbray averaged above 1.4 points per game with Sunderland, Blackburn, Middlesbrough, Celtic and West Brom themselves, which is testament to his capabilities as a manager. The Englishman has taken charge of 858 games during his long and successful managerial career, and would bring some much needed experience to the Baggies helm.
At 1/1 he is currently the odds on favourite to take charge.
Steven Schumacher – 4/1
Former Plymouth and Stoke City gaffer Steven Schumacher has been priced at 4/1 to take over the Baggies. After enjoying great success and getting Plymouth promoted with a points total exceeding 100, his move to the bet365 Stadium did not go as planned.
A disagreement between himself and Footballing Director Jon Walters caused him to depart the Potters after just 32 games in charge, of which he won just 13.
This was a significant change from his time at Home Park, during which he averaged 1.83 points per game, winning 60 of his 108 fixtures at the head of the Pilgrims.
Now seeking a new challenge and looking to make his mark with a managerial return, 4/1 odds could provide good value for punters looking to back Schumacher.
Sean Dyche – 12/1
Sean Dyche may be looking to make a quick turnaround after being sacked by Everton, and so he enters the market priced as a 12/1 outsider.
Dyche’s tenure with the Toffees was concerned mainly with fighting relegation across 83 games in charge, but he managed to win barely 1/4 of them, with only 26 victories accumulated.
The Englishman’s time at Goodison Park came to an end after the club managed just five goals in their last 10 games, seeing them slip to within one point of the Premier League’s relegation zone.
The Everton hierarchy thus thought it was time for a change, as Dyche had been unable to replicate the consistency he had shown during his time at Burnley, the club of which he had been in charge for over 400 games.
Now with the chance to quickly get himself back in the hot seat, the Hawthorns could see the gruff-voiced gaffer experience the grit of Championship football once more. At 12/1, he could provide excellent value if the current rumours about his interest in the role prove to be fruitful.
