ATP tennis is finally starting up again, and we’re going to back a veteran who is coming back from an injury to win his first match at the Asian Swing this year.
Besides that, we’re going to keep backing complicated matches on the WTA Tour as two Russians are set to battle it out in a very close match that will likely go to three sets. We have the best tips and predictions for Wednesday, September 18th, so keep reading to find out all about them.
Best tennis tips and predictions today
In our first tip, we’re going to back Marin Čilić to return to Asia with a win against the always tricky Zachary Svajda, who might struggle with the direct approach of Čilić.
In Wednesday’s other prediction, we’re backing Veronika Kudermetova and Liudmila Samsonova to play a really close match.
Cilic to defeat Svajda @ 5/6
Marin Čilić spent much of this year away from the courts due to injuries, and he’s not back to his best tennis yet. We can safely say that, but he’s played pretty decently in recent weeks since returning to tennis.
Svajda is a talented young player who has slowly but surely made his way close to the top 100. He’ll certainly get there eventually, but the main reason we’re backing Čilić here is the way the courts play in China, more on the fast side, and how flat Čilić plays.
He hits a very flat and direct tennis ball, which can wreak havoc on his best day. Svajda is more of a spin player and certainly doesn’t have too much power, so in a battle from the baseline, which we’re likely to see here, he won’t have a good time.
Obviously, it depends largely on how Čilić plays, but if he plays similarly to how he has in recent weeks, then he should be able to win this match.
The odds are pretty generous, so with the matchup issue for Svajda and the odds, it makes this bet a really good one to pursue. It would have been better if this match was played in Chengdu rather than in Hangzhou, but it is what it is.
We’re still quite confident that this will hit.
Samsonova vs Kudermetova – over 20.5 games @ 5/6
We can call this one a pretty standard WTA tennis pick in the sense that we expect a close match between two players of a similar level. Kudermetova is arguably the better player, but Samsonova is far more deadly when playing her best tennis.
What this means is that generally, Kudermetova will have the better baseline level. If they played 10 matches, Kudermetova would maintain a better level in most. In some of those, Samsonova would be far better because at her peak, she’s more deadly.
With a volatile matchup like this, it’s very likely that we’re going to get a back-and-forth match. It’s also very likely that we’ll get three sets because that’s how the two previous matches between them went.
One of those happened this year in Berlin on grass, so it’s generally been a very competitive match. Some of their matches went below this line, but in this spot, we like the over because it just seems likely due to how the courts play.
The ball bounces very high in Seoul, which will tire out the players and likely contribute to a very back-and-forth match. Overall, it’s just the best bet you can make on this close matchup, as picking a winner here is very volatile.
