THERE were some really good rounds yesterday at Quail Hollow but also some bad ones.
Kevin Kisner has played some solid golf (67-67) over the first two rounds and Hideki Matsuyama kept his form from last week with a sizzling 64 on Friday.
It is also good to see Francesco Molinari up there (T4) after hitting a 64 and pleased to see one of my picks Rickie Fowler still in with a chance.
Unfortunately some of the big names have all struggled this week including Rory McIlroy (+2), Dustin Johnston (+2) and Open winner Jordan Spieth (+3).
As there are some interesting threeballs today I thought I'd put up some selections
Threeball of Thorbjorn Olesen, Lee Westwood and David Lingmerth looks interesting. Olesen started with a super 67 but a horrendous 78 yesterday will have shaken his confidence. Not much to pick between the other two but I’ll go with Westwood.
In next group of Ian Poulter, Jamie Lovemark and Jordan Smith looks very close but I’m going with Lovemark to pip the two Englishmen.
American Daniel Summerhays came back with a bang yesterday with a 67 but the other American in this threeball, Tony Finau hit a 74, so I’m going for Swede Alex Noren to win this group.
I’m also going with one of my picks to win the PGA, Brooks Koepka, to overcome playing partners Sung Kang and Grayson Murray.
Mr Fixit was too busy with football to put up US PGA tips but I know he's on his favourite Matsuyama and took Daniel Summerhays as a 250-1 ew long shot so good luck there.
Matsuyama is now 17-10 favourite with Betfred ahead of Jason Day (9-2, bet365) and Kisner (6-1, McBookie). Fowler is 12-1 and I'm hoping he has a great day.
Threeball Singles
- Jamie Lovemark (15-8, Coral) – 4.10pm
- Alex Noren 17-10 (6-4, bet365) – 5.30pm
- Brooks Koepka (1-1, Coral) – 6-20pm
Ace's Already Advised Anteposts
- 4pts win Rory McIlroy (Coral 7-1)
- 1.5pts ew Rickie Fowler (Ladbrokes 16-1)
- 1.5pts ew Brooks Koepka (Paddy Power 25-1)
- 1pt ew Thomas Pieters (Betfred 60-1)
- 1.5pts ew Charley Hoffman (bet365 50-1)
My three ball picks yesterday didn’t do well at all but maybe I can do better today with the two balls two day.
Kevin Kisner was very solid yesterday, as was Chris Stroud, but Hideki Matsuyama was all over the place but still manage to stay in there. I fancy Kisner to keep them all at bay today and with his first Major.
Today Graham Delaet (11-8) had a great run on the back nine yesterday with birdie, eagle, eagle, birdie and it wouldn’t surprise me if he held off Patrick Reed’s return to form.
Billy Horshell (6-5) has improved every round and hit a 69 yesterday and although I’m a big fan of Byeong-Hun An I think Horshell is on a roll and can see him pipping An.
Francesco Molinari had a horrendous start yesterday with double bogey, bogey, bogey in his first three holes but managed to steady the ship a bit. Chez Reavie (11-8) on the other hand has been really steady in his first three rounds (72-70-70) and he can see off Molinari.
I thought Rickie Fowler (10-11) was going to start to challenge yesterday but a bogey, double bogey, bogey finish put paid to his winning here. However he was been really steady this week and earlier in the round yesterday he just couldn’t buy a putt. He takes on Paul Casey who himself had a horrendous finish (bogey-bogey-double) in the final three holes. I think RIckie can hold on here.
