US Open betting tips and predictions today

The third day of the US Open is upon us, which means we’ll have players who have already won a match playing against each other. That makes for even better matchups, and we singled out two of those which you should take a closer look at.

Novak Djokovic is facing compatriot Laslo Djere, who has traditionally given him lots of problems in the past, so will he do it again? Can Matteo Berrettini finally beat Taylor Fritz in a tennis match?

Find out all of that below in our best US Open tips for day three of the final major of the 2024 season.

Best US Open betting tips for day 3

Djere has never played against Djokovic without winning at least one set, so we’re going to back him to do so again. Berrettini, on the other hand, has never beaten Fritz in a tennis match, and we don’t think he’ll do it this time either.

Djokovic vs Djere over 3.5 sets @ 5/2

Djokovic and Djere have played two times so far, and both times, the latter gave the best of all time huge problems. Djokovic barely won their first match on clay, but he struggled on hard as well.

That match happened at last year’s US Open, and it was a pretty odd one. Djere was playing amazing tennis and led Djokovic 2-0 in sets but then simply lost it, allowing Djokovic to storm back.

It showed us though, that Djokovic can be hurt, and this match is early enough in the draw where that rings true once more. Djere knows Djokovic well and knows how to try to exploit almost nonexistent weaknesses.

Overall, Djokovic will win, but there is huge value in backing him to drop at least one set, especially with how the courts play and how Djere is capable of serving at times.

Berrettini vs Fritz over 3.5 sets @ 9/5

Berrettini has played well this year, but his level in recent weeks hasn’t been that impressive. He wasn’t very good in Cincinnati, and his first match at the US Open was decent at best.

Fritz has generally been pretty solid but struggled lately as well. What works for him is playing Berrettini. He won all three of their matches, losing only one set in all of them. He’s also playing at home, where he has done well in recent years.

The courts playing somewhat slower than expected will give Fritz time to counter the serve and unleash his own massive shots. He should be able to out-hit Berrettini from the baseline, and if he serves well enough, then he’s likely to win.

There is massive value in backing Fritz to win in straight sets because he rarely gets past the Italian unscathed – but we say that’s a little too risky to bet on.
