SCOTTISH jumps racing takes centre stage today as the ITV cameras head to Kelso and I have two selections that I think will run well at The Borders venue.

3.00 Kelso

Yala Enki needs to carry top weight in gruelling conditions so although he is the best horse in the field I am looking elsewhere. CHIC NAME was an impressive 5th in the Cross Country at Cheltenham running off level weights against some better horses. Back in a handicap here I think he will go very close. He also has the added bonus of James Bowen in the saddle.

3.35 Kelso

This is a tough staying race like the 3pm but over hurdles rather than fences. Donnas Diamond is the class act but much like Yala Enki he needs to carry top weight and is too short a price to advise a bet. The one that I fancy to go well is EMINENT POET for Venetia Williams. He is in cracking form and loves the heavy ground and I can see him running a career best to win this.

Stay tuned next week when I will be doing my annual runner-by-runner guide for the Grand National and daily guides for each of the three days of the Aintree Festival which promises to be absolutely brilliant.

Recommended bets:

  • 3.00pm Kelso – Chic Name – 2 points e/w at 6/1 with Betfair, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power
  • 3.35 Kelso – Eminent Poet – 2 points e/w at 8/1 with Betfair, William Hill and Ladbrokes
