IT was a terrific new year's day for many of us and today brings a much smaller card with a handful of EPL matches and games from both the top and second tier in Portugal.

I'm taking West Ham to get back to winning ways against a Brighton side who struggle away from home.

West Ham v Brighton (7.45pm)

It was a bitterly disappointing trip to Turf Moore for the Hammers as they went down without a whimper as Burnley easily beat them 2-0.

It was a bit of a surprise result, especially given the form West Ham have been in and would certainly have downed a lot of coupons.

Prior to that, they had won 5 of their last 6 matches (three of those included home wins against Burnley, Palace and Cardiff) and have a great record against sides in the bottom half of the table.

They are back at home tonight and have a terrific  incentive to close the gap on 7th-placed Leicester which will be the position 7 0r 8 clubs will be targeting.

They welcome a Brighton side who had a fruitful festive period picking up 4 points with a 1-1 draw against Arsenal and a 1-0 win over Everton.

Both of these games were at home though, one against an Everton side who have been dismal and when you look further into it,  Brighton have collected 17 of their 25 points at home.

Away from home they really struggle, just two wins and a draw and those points were collected against the league's poorest sides.

They have travelled to Bournemouth, Burnley and Cardiff recently and lost all three. This is much tougher and whilst they are a good side and tough to breakdown, I'm taking the Hammers to get back to winning ways against a side who aren't much of a threat on the road.

Recommended Bet

  • West Ham to win
  • 49/50 (Marathonbet) (NAP)

Of the 6 EPL matches I'm taking 5 of them in the early goal markets (leave out Huddersfield v Burnley). Pays 1461/1

Goal before 10 mins (5 fold, 4 fold, trebles)

Goal Before 30 mins  ( 5 fold)  be around 18/1 inplay

There's 9 matches from Portugal today and I'm going to have a punt on all 9 going over 1.5 goals which pays 20/1

Good luck with your bets today.
