EFL Trophy action tonight and its not a competition for big stakes primarily due to the fact we have no idea what sort of sides teams will be pouting out. That said, there's usually goals in these games. Tie of the round is the Tyne-Wear derby between Sunderland and Newcastle u21's and I'm liking Newcastle ‘s chances of grabbing a goal
Sunderland v Newcastle u21 (KO 7.45pm)
The fans will certainly look forward to this, albeit, not on the grand stage they would like to meet in but I'm not sure Sunderland boss Jack Ross will be too fussed given his side are right in the mix for automatic promotion and have a huge game against title Rivals Luton on Saturday.
Is he really going to risk his key players in EFL Trophy match against an u21 side? I think not
Sunderland are massive favourites but its worth noting this young Newcastle side are no mugs, they've already defeated three league sides in this years competition. (Doncaster 1-3, Notts County 0-2 Grimsby 2-3) those three wins were all away from home before beating Macclesfield at home on penalties in the last round.
Newcastle are a huge 8/1 to win this and whilst I'm not suggesting they will, being such a big price means we get a good price on them just to score
They've managed 9 goals so far in this comp and I'm taking them to grab a goal tonight against what I would expect to be a much weakened Sunderland side
Recommended Bet:
- Newcastle u21's to Score
- 4/5 (Bet365)
I'm also having a punt on all 7 games in the EFL trophy going over 1.5 goals – Pays just shy of 4/1
