REMEMBER Terry Gibson? Well, we've signed him and while he won't be kicking a football he'll be looking into his crystal ball and bringing us his best Spanish tips every week.
The ex-Spurs, Coventry and Manchester United striker is probably best remembered for his time as part of the infamous Wimbledon Crazy Gang side of the late 80s and early 90s. Now an expert in all things La Liga he works as a pundit and co-commentator on Sky Sports’ Spanish football coverage and is a contributor to unibet.
Here he previews Real Madrid at home to Athletic Bilbao.
Real Madrid v Athletic Bilbao (Wed 8.30pm)
Traditionally this is always expected to be one of the tougher fixtures for Madrid but in reality it just isn’t. At the Bernabeu Real are on a run of 12 straight victories against the proud Basques with the last win for Athletic back in 2005.
This is a key game for Zidane and his preparation for the Bayern Munich Champions League semi-final. Madrid have no weekend game after this. With the scheduled La Liga game against Sevilla being called off due to Sevilla’s participation in this Saturday’s Copa del Rey final, it gives Zidane another and last opportunity to look at possible team selections ahead of the big semi-final.
Ronaldo, Bale, Modric, Marcelo and Kroos were all rested for the victory on Sunday at Malaga and I expect them all to play in this game. Athletic Bilbao have underachieved this season and I’m finding it hard to justify them getting anything at the Bernabeu once again.
They lost at home to Deportivo la Coruńa at the weekend 3-2 and I’m expecting them to be defeated in this one. With the big hitters returning for Zidane I’m going for an emphatic 3-0 win for Real and can’t look any further than Ronaldo to bag the first goal of the game.
