Slipstips Bet Builder Tips

After delivering a winning selection on Wednesday night, SlipsTips shares a Bet Builder ahead of St Johnstone’s Scottish League Cup clash with Elgin City on Saturday afternoon.

St Johnstone vs Elgin City (Saturday, 15:00)

Seeking to finish top of Scottish League Cup Group F, St Johnstone welcome Elgin City to McDiarmid Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints have won each of their opening three group games and another success here will see them take their place in Sunday’s draw for the knockout round.

In contrast, Elgin have already been eliminated after coming away empty-handed from each of their three encounters so far.

Over 2 St Johnstone Goals

For the first leg of what will be a Bet Builder double, I’m more than happy to include a minimum of three St Johnstone goals. The Saints have hit a combined total of seven goals across their first three Group F assignments, delivering exactly three strikes in their wins over both East Kilbride and Raith Rovers.

Simo Valakari’s side will finish up with what undoubtedly represents their most straightforward Group F assignment on paper. As already mentioned, Elgin are heading for an early exit from the competition after suffering a trio of defeats thus far. The Black and Whites were soundly beaten 5-1 by Raith Rovers on matchday one and they have since crashed to a heavy 4-1 defeat when hosting East Kilbride last weekend. That defensive fragility does not augur well ahead of a trip to a St Johnstone side that have the added incentive of trying to be one of the seeds for Sunday’s last 16 draw.

Under 2 Elgin Goals

I’ll conclude the Bet Builder by including Elgin to score one goal or fewer on Saturday afternoon. Allan Hale’s side have scored just two goals across their opening three Group F outings, failing to make their mark in their one and only previous away day at Inverness. Thus, it’s difficult to envisage the Borough Briggs outfit causing top seeds St Johnstone too many issues on matchday four, especially given that the visitors have nothing other than pride to play for.

On top of that, St Johnstone have not conceded multiple goals in any of their previous three Scottish League Cup matches this season so far, most notably keeping a clean sheet away from home against Inverness. With all that in mind, I’m more than happy to side with under two Elgin goals to form the second half of what is an attractive 10/11 Bet Builder with Bet 365.
