Sinner has had a breakthrough year. The Italian was recently crowned world No. 1 off the back of a semi-final run at the French Open, and a maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. Overall, he sits on an impressive 33-3 win-loss in 2024, with titles in Melbourne, Rotterdam and Miami.
On grass this week, the top seed has taken some time to adjust. Dare we say, he’s even been less dominant than usual. Across his opening three matches, Sinner dropped sets, being pushed to the brink by Tallon Griekspoor, Fabian Marozsan, and Jan-Lennard Struff. He also just escaped a decider against Zhizhen Zhang in the semi-finals.
Hurkacz has been the exact opposite. The Pole has been on cruise control, rocketing down serves and winning matches with ease. The world No. 9 is yet to drop a set in Halle, racing past Flavio Cobolli, James Duckworth, Marcos Giron and most recently, world No. 4 Alexander Zverev.

Bookmaker Betfred has Sinner as a heavy favourite in this clash. The Italian pays just 1/3 to win the title in Halle, compared to Hurkacz’s odds of 23/10. The world No. 1 has a handicap of -3.5 at 13/8, while set betting puts this one at 2-0 to Sinner, returning 10/11.

Sinner and Hurkacz have met four times before on the ATP Tour, sharing the honours at 2-2 so far in their head-to-head. Sinner won the most recent meeting, earlier this year in Monte-Carlo, 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-1.

However, Sinner will be eager to head into Wimbledon with some good momentum. He’s not been his usual efficient self on grass this week, but has been winning nonetheless. In a final, with his record over the past nine months, it’s hard to see him not finishing the job here in Halle.
