I FOR one am pleased the festive fixtures are over as we get back to normality after what was a pretty tough set of results over the last few weeks.
The Scottish Premiership is shutdown for the winter break so the Championship takes centre stage along with League One and Two.
Premiership-bound Dundee United travel to Dumfries to play a rejuvenated QoS side and in League One promotion chasing Airdrie host Forfar.
QoS vs Dundee United (3pm)
If you said to United manager Robbie Neilson they would go into 2020 as much as 16 points clear he would have laughed at you but that's exactly where they find themselves after a scintillating first half to the season.
Never can I remember a Scottish league being over by Christmas and it's really just a case of United showing their professionalism with the league all but won.
Their 1-1 draw with city rivals Dundee last Friday ended their nine-game winning streak and Saturday sees them return to the location of their last defeat and worst performance of the season as they were turned over 4-0 by the Dumfries side.
QoS have collected three wins from their last four, propelling them up the league and they can have genuine play-off aspirations as we move into the second half of the season.
Six of their last 7 games have seen over 2.5 goals and with United boasting Lawrence Shankland and Nicky Clark and QoS's talisman striker Stephen Dobbie back among the goals this should be an entertaining game.
No reason why the hosts can't get on the scoresheet and if they do it sets us up nicely for over 2.5 goals against a side head and shoulders above every other team in the league.
Recommended Bet
- Over 2.5 goals
- 9/10 (Marathonbet) (NAP)
Airdrie vs Forfar (3pm)
Second top host second bottom as Airdrie will be looking to stay in touch at the top of the league against a Forfar side who look like they are in for a relegation battle.
One things is for sure, there are no shortage of goals in Airdrie home games with them very rarely keeping a clean sheet. They've kept just one in their last nine at home.
Forfar have seen 17 goals in their last 3 games (8 scored, 9 conceded) and you have to feel for them as they now face the league's top three sides in their next three games.
Dale Carrick and Callum Gallagher have been banging the goals in for Airdrie and will be licking their lips at the prospect of playing against this leaky Forfar defence.
Recommended Bet
- Over 2.5 goals
- 4/5 (Sky Bet)
Chesterfield vs Sutton United (3pm)
Few clubs in the country have had a better festive period than Sutton United, four wins from four has moved them away from the relegation places and within touching distance of the play-offs.
Wins by 3-2, 2-0, 3-2 and 6-2 with 14 goals scored is a fabulous return and they travel to struggling Chesterfield side who lie just three points off bottom spot.
Chesterfield have seen five of their last six at home go over 2.5 goals and with 10 of their last 12 matches seeing three or more goals, Sutton will fancy their chances of making it five wins on the spin.
Recommended Bet
- Over 2.5 goals
- 1/1 (sportingbet)
All 15 Scottish games over 1.5 goals is also worth a dabble at 20/1 with William Hill

Why is the Sutton United game Evens for Over 2.5? For two sides hitting the onion bag regularly I would think 4/7 or something like that
