Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool

, KO: 15:00 Feb 4, 2023, Molineux
Liverpool

WOLVES host Liverpool again just 18 days after they met at Molineux on FA Cup duty with the visitors prevailing. But both teams will be absolutely desperate for league points here.

Liverpool plummeted to a new low in a truly miserable campaign last week when Brighton dumped them out of the FA Cup, so that win at Wolves counted for nothing.

For the first time ever, there are murmurings about the future of Jurgen Klopp with Liverpool currently sitting in a lowly ninth place and a serious bit of work needed just to reach a European spot this season.

That FA Cup win at Wolves was their only win in their last seven games and that's wholly unacceptable for a club the size of Liverpool.

Klopp's stubborn refusal to invest in the transfer window, with the exception of Cody Gakpo, means they remain depleted and vulnerable in the midfield area. And they will still be without the injured Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Arthur, Luis Diaz and Ibrahima Konate

Wolves continue to battle against relegation and they have definitely picked up and improved as a team after a dismal start to the season. They may have lost to Manchester City at the Etihad in their last league games, but that was a free hit and they beat West Ham in a huge win in their last league game at home.

How the bookies view it

The fact that Liverpool are available at almost evens – 13/14 with SBK – gives you an indication of how far they have fallen in the eyes of bookies even.

Wolves can be backed at 3/1 with Paddy Power and the draw id 11/4 with bet365.

Recent head to heads

As mentioned, Liverpool won 1-0 in the FA Cup in a replay after a 2-2 draw at Anfield. Wolves haven't beaten Liverpool in their last nine meetings.

Players to watch

Matheus Cunha has yet to open his account for Wolves after being signed on loan from Atletico Madrid last month. He is 4/1 to score with William Hill.

Harvey Elliott scored the only goal of the game at Molineux last month and also netted last week against Brighton. He is an attractive 7/1 with UniBet to score anytime.

Anything else catch the eye?

Liverpool may not be in a good place, but they should have enough quality still to beat Wolves at a backable price. They will be hurting after their FA Cup elimination and a win is a necessity.

It could be a narrow success though and the under 2.5 goals and an away win at a nice 15/4 with Coral certainly appeals too.

There were only eight corners at Anfield and six at Molineux in their recent FA Cup ties, so the obvious call is under 9.5 corners at 11/10 with Paddy Power.
