West Ham vs Ipswich

, KO: 15:00 Oct 5, 2024, London Stadium
Ipswich

West Ham will take on Ipswich on Saturday, 5 October with the home team desperate for a win for the sake of their manager Julen Lopetegui.

Lopetegui's tenure at the London Stadium hasn't started as well as anyone would have hoped and pressure is beginning to mount after just one win in his first six league games in charge.

Ipswich Town, meanwhile, are still searching for their first Premier League win but they can still be pleased with how their season has started. They currently have four points from six games and are outside the relegation zone.

How the bookies view it: The hosts go in as favourites

Despite their worrying run of form, West Ham go into this one as the favourites. Betfred have priced a win for the Hammers at 4/5 while Ipswich have been priced at 16/5 to pick up their first three points of the season. The draw, which would be the away team's fifth of the season already, has been priced at 13/5.

Recent head-to-head: A first competitive match in 12 years

This is the first time since 2012 that West Ham and Ipswich have met in a competitive fixture. Back then, the two teams played twice in the Championship with Ipswich doing the double over the Hammers by an aggregate score of 6-1.

Since their last competitive match, the two clubs have met five times in pre-season friendlies with West Ham winning the last three.

Players to watch: Delap to down the Hammers?

Liam Delap was one of several summer signings brought in by Ipswich this summer and given the centre forward cost the club £16m there was an element of pressure on his shoulders to deliver straight away. Fortunately for the 21-year-old, he has already shown enough across his first six league appearances to suggest it will be money well spent.

Delap scored a screamer in the club's opening league match against Fulham and then netted a brilliant double against Aston Villa last weekend. Delap is looking more and more like a Premier League striker but he is still awaiting his first goal away from Portman Road. Could that come at the London Stadium on Saturday?

West Ham have plenty of forwards capable of producing moments of magic themselves, they just haven't fired yet this season. Jarrod Bowen is yet to show the kind of form that earned him a place in England's Euro 2024 squad and is overdue a goal this weekend.

Predicted line-ups

Edson Alvarez is certain to miss the match this weekend due to suspension while Niclas Fullkrug could also miss out due to injury. Ipswich have more injury concerns with Janoi Donacien, Harry Clarke and Nathan Broadhead all in a race against time to be fit.

West Ham: Areola – Wan-Bissaka, Kilman, Todibo, Emerson – Soucek, Rodriguez – Paqueta, Kudus, Bowen – Antonio

Ipswich: Muric – Tuanzebe, O'Shea, Greaves, Davis – Morsy, Phillips – Ogbene, Clarke, Hutchinson – Delap

Anything else catch the eye?

Four of the last eight matches that these two teams have played between them have finished 1-1. Another draw feels likely here given that both teams are in the midst of their own respective winless streaks. The match to finish 1-1 has been priced at 13/2 by Betfred.

This match between West Ham and Ipswich will be played on Oct 5, 2024 and kick off at 15:00. Check below for our tipsters best West Ham vs Ipswich prediction. You may also visit our dedicated betting previews section for the most up to date previews.
