WALES get their UEFA Nations League campaign underway against the Netherlands at the Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday night.
Rob Page's side will enter this contest riding the crest of a wave following their 1-0 World Cup playoff final win over Ukraine on Sunday, on an evening where my recommended Bet Builder landed.
That triumph means that Wales have now qualified for three of the last four major tournaments, ending a 64-year wait to play in the World Cup in the process.
After their heroics on Sunday, the Dragons will now turn their attention to their opening contest in the latest edition of the Nations League.
The Netherlands have been a resurgent force under Louis Van Gaal, having avoided defeat in each of their 10 outings under the experienced Dutchman's third stint as national boss.
The Oranje will be coming into this game buoyed by their 4-1 victory against Belgium on Friday, in a match which brought up my main bet in Brussels.
Outright Betting
Wales have fallen to defeat in each of their previous eight encounters with Netherlands and the bookies' odds suggest that trend will continue here, with a home win trading at 11/2 (William Hill) while the draw is also deemed improbable at 3/1 (PaddyPower).
Netherlands, who have won six of their last seven competitive contests, roll into Cardiff as red-hot 5/9 favourites with SBK.
Betting Angles
Netherlands look a bit too short to side with at the aforementioned odds but we can get some 4/5 (William Hill) on the visitors scoring two or more goals and that looks like a worthy boost in price.
As already mentioned, Louis Van Gaal's men are in the midst of a 10-game unbeaten run, triumphing in a sizeable seven of those outings.
What's more, Netherlands have scored a minimum of two goals in six of their seven meaningful matches under Van Gaal's guidance.
Whilst Wales have a reputation for being a solid but unspectacular side, Dragons chief Rob Page could shuffle his pack here following his sides' exertions against Ukraine last time out.
It's also worth pointing out that the hosts have secured just one clean sheet across their last six matches, conceding once at home to international lesser light Belarus during that sample.
With all this in mind, backing the Dutch to hit a double in the Welsh capital holds obvious appeal at 4/5 with William Hill.
I'll also dip into the anytime goalscorer market and take the 6/5 for Netherlands forward Memphis Depay to continue his recent host-streak in front of goal for his country.
The Barcelona forward was the 12-goal top scorer in World Cup qualifying and after bagging a brace against Belgium on Friday, he is a tempting play to make the net bulge again this midweek.
