GEORGIA came out of the blocks the fastest in Group B1 of this season’s Nations League, and will look to at least maintain their lead at the top with a victory over Ukraine. Ukraine have slipped to back-to-back defeats and realistically need a result on October 11th, to keep their promotion hopes alive.
How the bookies view it: Hosts favoured to bank maximum points
Ukraine the match favourites, are running at a quote of 6/5 to pick up the win with Bet365. They will need to shake off a run of poor form to achieve that, but they are on a four-match unbeaten streak against Georgia. Georgia, who are looking to maintain their 100% start to the campaign, are 23/10 underdogs in the match.
Recent head-to-head: Ukraine to defend unbeaten run against Georgia
Ukraine have taken a W2 D2 record in their last four meetings with Georgia, and the trend from those four matches is that both teams scored in each. This will be the first meeting since a 2015 friendly, in which Ukraine took a 2-1 win. Overall, from nine previous meetings, Ukraine have remained unbeaten, winning two thirds of those.
Players to watch: Kvaratskhelia a constant threat for Georgia
Exciting young forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is Georgia's big star and can be a handful for any defence. The Napoli star averages just under a goal every other game for his country, and will likely be at the heart of everything good from Georgia on the counter-attack.
For Ukraine, their pace is going to come from Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk who arguably isn’t the greatest finisher, and worth avoiding in the goalscorer markets with just 2 in 24 appearances for his country. But he is one of the main sources of assists for Ukraine, opening the door to a Mudryk 1+ Assist betting tip.
Predicted Lineups
Neither team has any notable absentees from their squads, so this should be a good, even contest between the two nations.
Ukraine: Trubin, Mykolenko, Matviyenko, Zabarnyi, Tymchyk, Stepanenko, Mudryk, Zinchenko, Shaparneko, Yarmolenko, Vanat
Georgia: Mamardashvili, Kakabadze, Dvali, Kashia, Kochiashvili, Kiteishvili, Chakvetadze, Lochos Chili, Gvelesiani, Kvaratskhelia, Mikautadze
Anything else catches the eye?
Ukraine are not a team in any great form at the moment with just one win recorded in their last five matches (D1 L3), banking one clean sheet in that sequence. So they are on shaky ground currently and have shipped five goals in total in their Nations League losses against Albania and Czechia. Over 2.5 goals at 11/10 may be worth a look in this one, as that’s happened in five of Ukraine’s last six matches.
Georgia have won three of their last four matches in all competitions, including that famous 2-0 win over Portugal at Euro 2024. To put their form into context, they opened their Nations League account with a thumping 4-1 win over Czechia, who then went on to beat Ukraine. To further support the expectancy of goals, two of Georgia's last three have gone over 4.5 goals.
Georgia are not going to be a pushover in this one as they have a bit of momentum, and they would be happy enough getting out of this fixture with a point, as they still have to meet Ukraine back on home turf.
