Sweden are only playing for pride as they welcome Estonia to Friends Arena for their final Group F fixture in the European Championship qualifiers. They Swedes will be keen to go out on a high note and should be too strong for their visitors, who are winless in the qualifiers.
Sweden are coming off a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Azerbaijan in their previous qualifying fixture. They were already two goals down within six minutes and despite dominating the possession and creating several chances, could not find a way back into the contest.
That result was the culmination of a disappointing campaign for Sweden, who have only picked up two wins from seven matches in Group F. Sitting 10 points off the top two, Janne Andersson’s men are set to miss out on the European Championship for the first time since 1996.
With only pride at stake, Sweden will be looking to wrap up their campaign on a positive note in front of their fans. They have won three of their last four home matches across all competitions with a 5-1 victory over Azerbaijan among their results in that run.
Estonia were widely regarded as the weakest team in Group F and proved it throughout the campaign. They have failed to claim a single win so far, suffering six defeats and playing out one draw in their seven qualifying matches.
The Estonians travel to Friends Arena off the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Austria in their previous qualifying fixture. They failed to offer any kind of threat or resistance and finished the contest without a single attempt on target.
Performances like that have been a staple of Estonia’s qualifying campaign as they have only found the net twice while conceding 20 goals in just seven matches. Thomas Haberli’s men suffered a 5-0 defeat to Belgium in their previous away fixture in the qualifiers.
How the bookies view it
Sweden have been installed as overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 1/6 by Coral. An unlikely victory for Estonia is valued at 25/1 by Ladbrokes while a draw is set at odds of 7/1 by Unibet.
Head to head
Sweden have never lost to Estonia, with seven wins and two draws from nine previous meetings. The Swedes picked up a 5-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in September with Viktor Gyokeres netting the opener.
Players to watch
Sweden may have found things difficult last time out in Azerbaijan but they do have plenty of attacking quality. The likes of Gyokeres, Robin Quaison and Dejan Kulusevski and Emil Forsberg are expected to feature in attack and can ensure the Swedes produce over 1.5 goals on Sunday at 1/3 with Betfred.
Having earned a shutout in the reverse fixture, Sweden will be targeting a similar outcome on Sunday. Victor Lindelof should continue at the heart of the defence and can lead the hosts to a win to nil at 13/20 with BetVictor.
Anything else catch the eye?
Sweden ran out 5-0 winners in the reverse meeting and with another comfortable victory expected on Sunday, a -2 handicap could be considered at 6/4 with BetVictor. The Swedes also won both halves in that fixture and a repeat is valued at 5/4 by Coral.
The result in the reverse fixture means Sweden could also be tipped to win by four or more goals on Sunday at 7/2 with Paddy Power.
