St Mirren vs Hibernian

, KO: 19:45 , St Mirren Park
Hibernian

Hibs will look to potentially seal a top-three finish on Wednesday night as they travel to Paisley to take on sixth-placed St Mirren.

David Gray’s visitors suffered their second defeat in their last three matches at the weekend, as they fell to a 3-1 defeat away at champions Celtic despite taking an early lead.

Whilst that’s now two defeats on the spin away from home, The Hibees remain in a strong position in their pursuit of a top-three finish, with them still sitting three points clear of fourth-placed Aberdeen, as well as a +20 goal difference over The Dons.

St Mirren’s slim hopes of a top-four finish were kept alive at the weekend, as they went to Tannadice and defeated Dundee United 0-2 on an afternoon our man Mark landed a couple of cracking winners.

Stephen Robinson’s side are now unbeaten in their last four Premiership matches – winning three of them – with The Buddies also winning three of their past four at home (W3-D1-L0), only dropping points in a 2-2 draw with Rangers in that sequence.

How the bookies view it: Hibs slight favourites

Hibs head to Paisley as slight favourites, with BoyleSports pricing them at 11/8 to end their two-match losing run away from home.

The same firm are pricing St Mirren at 7/4 to continue their impressive run of form, whilst the draw is 21/10.

Head to head: High five for Buddies

St Mirren are unbeaten in each of their previous five meetings between the two sides, winning three of the last four.

Players to watch: Boyle to bag again?

Hibernian’s talisman Martin Boyle is their leading scorer in the Premiership with 13 goals and has scored in six of his last eight Premiership appearances.

After the sale of Toyosi Olusanya last month, Mikael Mandron is now The Buddies’ top-scorer with seven, with The Frenchman netting in each of his last two appearances.

Probable line-ups

St Mirren’s club captain Mark O’Hara didn’t make the squad at Tannadice at the weekend, and it’s unclear if he’ll be back available on Wednesday.

Hibs are expected to be without club captain Joe Newell and on-loan Celtic midfielder Kwon Hyeok-Kyu.

St Mirren: Hemming, Fraser, Gogic, Taylor, Alebiosu, Phillips, Idowu, Boyd-Munce, John, Ayunga, Mandron

Hibernian: Smith, O’Hora, Bushiri, Iredale, Cadden, Levitt, Triantis, Obita, Campbell, Kukharevych, Boyle

Anything else catch the eye?

The last meeting between these two sides finished goalless in the middle of February, but given the form both are in, it’s difficult to envisage another low-scoring encounter between the pair.

The previous seven meetings prior to that goalless draw in February had averaged 3.86 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals landing in each of them.

What’s more, seven of The Hibees' last 10 Premiership matches have seen a minimum of three goals, as have six of St Mirren’s previous nine, and the 20/23 at BoyleSports for Over 2.5 Goals certainly appeals to me.
