Spain vs Germany

, KO: 19:00 Nov 27, 2022, Al Bayt Stadium
Germany

SUNDAY night sees the biggest game of the tournament so far when Spain and Germany meet in a huge heavyweight group clash.

World Cup royalty meets here, but they could hardly have got their campaigns off to two more different starts.

Spain trounced Cost Rica 7-0 and looked back to their swashbuckling best. You have to take into account their limited opposition, but there have been plenty of times a Spanish side have been rightly criticised for not turning domination into goals and that certainly couldn't have been levelled against them against the Costa Ricans, They were clinical.

But the Germans are in disarray after a disastrous opener when they let slip a one goal lead against Japan by allowing them to score twice in an eight minute spell and lose 2-1.

Losing was bad enough, but they looked disjointed well before the Japanese scored and were particularly ineffective in an attacking sense with Kai Havertz looking lost and Thomas Muller showing every one of his 33 years.

Hansi Flick needs to seriously shake his team up after a storm of criticism in his homeland as they face the very real prospect of being eliminated at the group stages for the second World Cup in a row,

How the bookies view it

Spain are favourites and that has hardened in the market since the first game. They can be backed at 63/50 with Highbet.

Germany are available at 89/50 and the draw id 49/20.

Recent head to heads

Spain struck a serious psychological blow when they hammered Germany 6-0 in the Nations League two years ago. They have played each other 13 times in total and Spain are ahead 5-3 with the rest draws.

Players to watch

Barcelona star Ferran Torres would have been annoyed he was taken off against Costa Rica while sitting on a hat-trick and he is 12/5 to score his third goal of the tournament on Sunday with Highbet. He also netted a hat-trick in the aforementioned 6-0 game

Ilkay Gundogan scored from the penalty spot against Japan but the Manchester City man also had a number iof other opportunities. He is of interest at 17/4 to score on Sunday.

Anything else catch the eye?

Spain are begging to be backed here. They showed a different side to their game where they looked like they could score in every attack.

It's difficult to avoid the conclusion that there's something not right in the German camp and perhaps if they concentrated on football rather than silly PR stunts, they may improve.

The confidence drained out of them as soon as Japan scored and that fairly recent 6-0 game will still be in their heads.

With Germany having to goi for the win here, they could leave themselves exposed and there should be goals here, especially after the break and the 101/100 with Highbet for the second half to be the highest scoring half is appealing.
