Spain and England meet in the quarter-finals of the U21 UEFA European Championships at the Stadion Antona Malatinskeho in Slovakia on Saturday night.
Spain topped Group A undefeated with two wins and a draw under their belt, while England had to settle for second spot in Group B with four points, behind group winners Germany. As such, the Little Red should be favourites to progress through to the semi-finals.
However, Spain's pre-tournament form was not the best, having lost their previous two games. On the other hand, England won their previous two matches in preparation for the tournament.
The Young Lions can also take some encouragement from their recent H2H record, as they are unbeaten in their previous four meetings against the Little Red. They are also the current holders having won it in 2023, and so will be determined to retain their crown.
How the bookies view it: Spain slight favourites
Spain are slight 6/5 favourites with BoyleSports to claim victory in normal time, while an England triumph is rated at 2/1 with the same bookmaker. A draw in normal time can be backed at 9/4, which we feel could happen given that both teams are fairly evenly matched.
Recent head-to-head: Bore draw in Cadiz
Both teams played out a 0-0 draw in a friendly in Cadiz. It was seen as more of a valuable result for England at the time, given that Spain had only been beaten on home soil once in the previous three years.
Players to watch: Fernandez could fire Spain to glory
Roberto Fernandez is likely to lead the line for Spain, as he has done throughout the group stage so far. The Braga forward has already scored in the tournament, and ranks highly among his teammates for total shots taken and on target.
Alex Scott has scored and assisted for England in the competition, and the Young Lions will try to look to him to dictate play.
Predicted lineups
Spain have no fresh concerns for this clash, so could look to play a similar team to the one that secured qualification for the knockout stage.
England also have no new worries, but could be tempted to make changes after not winning any of their last two matches.
Spain: Cunat, Pubill, Marin, Herzog, Garcia, Jauregizar, Moleiro, Marin, Moro, Fernandez, Rodriguez.
England: Beadle, Hinshelwood, Norton-Cuffy, Cresswell, Quansah, Anderson, McAtee, Elliott, Stansfield, Hutchinson, Nwaneri.
Anything else catch the eye?
In five of the previous six games in all competitions involving these two teams, both teams have scored. Therefore, backing Both Teams To Score (BTTS) at 4/5 with BoyleSports seems like a safe bet.
In the group stage, Spain and England managed to score a total of six and four goals respectively over their three games, both averaging over a goal per match. Based off of this, we could see plenty of goalmouth action between two great attacks, and BoyleSports are offering 13/5 odds for Over 3.5 total goals.
