DOOMED Sheffield United proved they won't go down without a fight by beating Aston Villa at the weekend and will try and follow that up against a Southampton side scratching for form.
This season has long been a car crash for the Blades and relegation is all but confirmed – they are bottom of the table and 12 points away from safety.
But they proved they can still be dangerous with a shock win over Villa and will fancy their chances against a Saints side who haven't won in the league since they beat Liverpool at St Mary's at the start of the year.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has promised their fans they will find a way out of a looming relegation dogfight, but their form has nose-dived – they have collected just one point in their last nine league matches – and you don't want to be on a run like that at the business end of the season.
And the last place they will want to go to in their quest to end that is Bramall Lane against Chris Wilder's side.
How the bookies view it?
There's a 16-point gap between the sides and that's reflected in the betting with Saints 107/100 favourites with TonyBet. The hosts can be backed at 11/4 with McBookie.com. The draw is 13/5 with Unibet.
Recent head to heads
Southampton have won the last three meetings between the sides and cruised to a 3-0 victory in Hampshire in December, with goals from Che Adams, Stuart Armstrong and Nathan Redmond.
Players to watch.
Ralph Hasenhuttl credited Stuart Armstrong's performance in their defeat at Everton and the Scotland international is always a goal threat for Southampton. He's been on target twice in his last seven games and is 23/5 with Unibet to score anytime. Danny Ings has been off form recently with just two goals in his last ten games, but he's 7/5 with Unibet to net.
David McGoldrick got the winner for United against Villa and he's always a danger. He's 10/3 with bet365 to score.
Anything else catch the eye?
Saints have scored just five goals in their last nine league games and you couldn't be backing them with that form. If United have any hope at all of pulling off the greatest of great escapes, a win is essential, but both sides are at the bottom of the form table.
However, Sheffield United have defensive issues for this game though and are down to two fit central defenders, with Oli McBurnie even filling in as a makeshift centre half the other night. It's very hard to make a strong case for any side to win.
Sheffield United have picked up more yellow cards than anyone else in the league with 48 in 26 games. John Lundstram has the second highest amount of cards in the league with six and he's 4/1 to be booked with McBookie.com. United are 4/6 for over 1.5 cards with bet365 too.
