Sevilla host Wolfsburg in a UEFA Champions League Group G fixture as they continue the search for their first win in the competition. Wolfsburg have been resurgent in recent weeks and will be confident of coming away from Spain with something.
Sevilla have generally done well under the management of Julen Lopetegui so far as they are challenging near the top end of La Liga. However, they have been disappointing in the Champions League and are bottom of the group.
The Spaniards suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Lille in their previous Champions League fixture as they failed to build on Lucas Ocampos’ early opener. That was incidentally their first defeat in the competition having played out draws in their previous three fixtures.
Sevilla head into Tuesday’s match off the back of another draw as they were held 2-2 by Alaves in a La Liga fixture last Saturday. They were made to come from behind twice with Lucas Ocampos once again on target while Ivan Rakitic struck a late equaliser.
Wolfsburg are also coming off a draw as they were held 2-2 by Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga last Saturday. They fought back from two goals down with second half efforts from Wout Weghorst and Lukas Nmecha earning them a share of the spoils.
The Germans have looked a different side since Florian Kohfeldt took charge following the sacking of Mark Van Bommel. The manager is yet to taste defeat and led the team to their first Champions League win of the season when they claimed a 2-1 victory over Salzburg last time out.
Like Sevilla, Wolfsburg have also been plagued by draws lately and have been held twice in their four Champions League matches.
