With the top two already settled in Group G of the UEFA Champions League, it is now a battle for a place in the Europa League as Sevilla host Copenhagen on Tuesday. Neither side has been impressive in the competition but Sevilla have looked slightly better than the Danes in recent weeks and should edge a low scoring contest.
Sevilla are enduring a rough campaign and have struggled to find their rhythm. Even the return of Jorge Sampaoli has not helped as they are still winless in the Champions League and in the bottom half of the table in La Liga.
The Andalusians showed some fight in their previous Champions League fixture as they played out a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund. They took the lead through Tanguy Nianzou but were pegged back by the Germans before the break.
Sevilla will take some positives from that performance in Germany and will attempt to build on a decent run in recent weeks as they are unbeaten in four of their last five matches in all competitions. The Spaniards are also unbeaten in their last two matches at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Copenhagen have had similar problems to Sevilla and are also without a win in the Champions League after four matches. They played out a 0-0 draw with Manchester City in their previous fixture in the competition, although the Premier League champions played much of the encounter with 10 men.
While Copenhagen and Sevilla are level on two points in the group, the Danes are actually bottom of the standings having failed to score a single goal in the Champions League. They are also without a regular time win in their last six matches across all competitions and were held to a 1-1 draw by Midtjylland in a Superliga fixture last Saturday.
Copenhagen have been poor travellers this season and are winless in their last eight away matches across all competitions. Jacob Neestrup’s men have suffered five defeats in that run, including a 3-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund and a 5-0 thrashing at Manchester City in the Champions League.
How the bookies view it
Sevilla are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 8/15 by BoyleSports. A victory for Copenhagen is valued at 6/1 by BetVictor while a draw is set at odds of 7/2 by SBK.
Head to head
The only previous meeting between Sevilla and Copenhagen was the reverse fixture which ended in a 0-0 draw.
Players to watch
While Sevilla have been struggling to get going lately, Erik Lamela has shown some quality in recent weeks. The attacker has scored in his last two matches and is priced at 11/4 by bet365 to find the net on Tuesday.
Given Copenhagen’s goalscoring problems in the Champions League, Sevilla will be targeting a shutout. Nemanja Gudelj was at the heart of the defence when the Spaniards kept a clean sheet in the reverse fixture and could lead the team to a similar outcome at 11/10 with BoyleSports.
Anything else catch the eye?
Neither team has been particularly prolific in attack this season and Tuesday’s clash could be set to produce under 2.5 goals at 13/14 with 10bet. With Copenhagen still without a goal in the competition, BTTS NO could also be considered at 6/7 with SBK.
Sevilla look to have the edge over Copenhagen and can be tipped to earn a win to nil at 6/4 with BoyleSports.
