Sevilla will be aiming to recover from their slow start to the season when they host Barcelona in La Liga on Saturday.
Sevilla are a long way from last season’s start where they lost just once in their opening 13 La Liga fixtures. They have failed to secure a win in their first three matches this season, suffering two defeats already.
The Andalusians head into Saturday’s clash off the back of a 2-1 defeat at Almeria in their previous La Liga fixture. They failed to build on Oliver Torres’ opener on the half hour mark and were quickly pegged back by the newly promoted side.
One worrying thing for manager Julen Lopetegui is that Sevilla have already faced two newly promoted teams, failing to beat either of them. They have also struggled defensively, conceding in every game this season, and even failed to hold on to their lead as evidenced by the defeat at Almeria.
Barcelona were victorious in their previous La Liga fixture as they recorded a 4-0 win over Real Valladolid. They were comfortable throughout with Robert Lewandowski netting a brace while Pedri and Sergi Roberto were also on target.
After being held to a 0-0 home draw in their opening fixture, manager Xavi will be pleased to see Barcelona returning to their rampant best. They have claimed 4-0 victories in their last two matches and are already looking like the team to push Real Madrid this season.
Barcelona have been solid at the back this season and are yet to concede after three matches. However, one thing that has been pivotal to the Catalans form is the ease with which summer signing Robert Lewandowski has settled down at Camp Nou with the striker on four goals already this season.
How the bookies view it
Barcelona have the upper hand among the bookies and are priced at 16/19 by SBK to claim the win. A victory for Sevilla is valued at 19/5 by BetVictor while a draw is set at odds of 11/4 with Coral.
Recent head to head
Barcelona are unbeaten in the last 10 matches with Sevilla, claiming five wins in that run. The Catalans claimed a 1-0 victory in the last meeting back in April.
Players to watch
One of the more impressive aspects of Barcelona’s campaign is their solid defence that is yet to be breached this season. They have also kept clean sheets in five of their last eight matches against Sevilla and a similar outcome is priced at 7/4 with Coral.
At the other end of the pitch, Lewandowski will be aiming to continue his fine start to life at Barcelona. The Polish striker has four goals in just three appearances this season and is priced at 42/41 with SBK to score at anytime.
Anything else catch the eye?
Given Barcelona’s attacking prowess this season, a -1 handicap could be on the cards at 21/10 with Coral. Their defensive record means a win to nil could also be considered at 23/10 with BetVictor.
Barcelona have scored in both halves in their last two matches and could be set for a repeat on Saturday at 17/10 with BoyleSports.
