Sassuolo are set to maintain their recent good form as they face Spezia in a Friday night Serie A clash. Home form has been pivotal for Sassuolo lately and they should have too much for Spezia who have struggled of late.
Sassuolo have been on the rise and are unbeaten in their last five Serie A matches. They are currently 10th on the table, eight points behind fifth placed Atalanta. The hosts still hold a slim chance of securing a Europa Conference League spot for next season.
Alessio Dionisi’s men played out a 2-2 draw at bottom side Salernitana in their previous fixture with Gianluca Scamacca and Hamed Traore getting their goals. The hosts had won their previous three matches and will be confident of making a swift return to winning ways.
Sassuolo also have a good record at the MAPEI Stadium where they are unbeaten in three matches across all competitions. They have claimed two wins in that run and picked up a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in their previous home fixture.
Spezia ended a run of four straight defeats with a 2-0 win over Cagliari last time out. They put up impressive displays at both ends of the pitch with Martin Erlic and Rey Manaj getting their goals.
The good news is that Spezia do not have a present threat of relegation looming over them as a good run of results at the turn of the year eased them away from trouble. They are now up to 15th on the table, seven points above the bottom three.
While Spezia have a healthy lead above the bottom three, they need a win to keep their head above water. Thiago Motta’s men have been poor on their travels lately, losing their last two away matches.
