AFTER beginning their Premiership campaigns with a draw last weekend, Ross County and Dundee United face off at Dingwall on Saturday afternoon in what has the potential to be an entertaining encounter.
Ross County began their league campaign in North Lanarkshire last week and played out a goalless draw in a match that saw plenty of missed chances.
That result also put an end to their four-match winning run, with Don Cowie’s hosts making it four wins from four to top their League Cup group, but given The Staggies historically bad away record, they’ll class that draw at Fir Park a good result.
Dundee United made their Premiership return last weekend – and despite taking the lead twice – could only draw 2-2 with city-rivals Dundee in what was an entertaining watch.
Jim Goodwin’s began their Scottish League
Cup campaign with a 2-0 defeat at group winners Falkirk, but three wins from their next three was enough to finish as one of three best-placed second-placed sides to set up a tie at home to St Mirren next weekend.
How the bookies view it: Tough on to call
The bookies find this match a tough one to call, with Ross County marginal favourites at 8/5 at Betfred. The visitors are available at 15/8 at William Hill, whilst Bet365 are offering 12/5 for a stalemate.
Head to head: Staggies with the upper hand
With Dundee United in the Championship last term, these two sides last faced off in the 2022/23 season, with Ross County picking up seven points from their four meetings (W2-D1-L1), winning the last two 4-0 and 1-3.
Players to watch: Trapanovski to find the target?
New Tangerines signing Kristijan Trapanovski has scored four goals across his last four league and cup matches, including the opener in their derby draw with Dundee last weekend.
Staggies striker Jordan White bagged four goals in the group stages of the League Cup and will look to get off the mark in the Premiership on Saturday.
Probable line-ups
Ross County claimed a decent point on their travels against Motherwell last weekend, and manager Don Cowie may opt for a similar starting 11 to the one that started at Fir Park.
Despite failing to hold on for all three points, Tangerines boss Jim Goodwin will have been pleased with his side's performance – particularly in the first half – and may opt for an unchanged side.
Ross County: Laidlaw, Wright, Nightingale, Leak, Brown, Loturi, Randall, Grieves, Harmon, Hale, White
Dundee United: Walton, Graham, Gallagher, Holt, Ševen, Sibbald, Babunski, Ferry, Thomson, Van der Sande, Trapanovski
Anything else catch the eye?”
Dundee United’s previous four matches in league and cup have yielded 17 goals – and with Ross County’s opening four contests producing 13 goals prior to that goalless draw at Fir Park last week – goals could be on the menu in Dingwall on Saturday.
The Tangerine’s previous four have seen Over 2.5 Goals payout – and given Ross County’s four League Cup ties produced at least three strikes – I like the look Over 2.5 Goals at Evens with Bet365.
Dundee United’s last three have seen goals at both ends, and a repeat here appeals at 4/5 also at Bet365.
