Real Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt

, KO: 20:00 Aug 10, 2022, Olympic Stadium, Helsinki.
Eintracht Frankfurt

REAL MADRID and Eintracht Frankfurt meet in the European Super Cup Final in Helsinki after both of them won knife-edge finals last season.

Carlo Ancelotti's men edged out Liverpool in the final and their pathway to the trophy was littered with sensational comebacks and a refusal to surrender when by rights they should have been out.

And of course, Eintracht broke the hearts of the vast travelling army of Rangers fans in Seville with that pulsating final which they won in a penalty shootout.

There's no disguising the Super Cup is well down the list of priorities among the big guns of Europe and Real will be using this as preparation for their big La Liga kick off at the weekend against Almeria.

Their pre-season was the usual glamour tour of the world and they defeated Juventus 2-0 in their final game last week in Los Angeles.

Eintracht most certainly will be treating this very seriously and Helsinki will be invaded by many thousands of their fans and they are set to swamp the stadium.

However, they were well and truly brought down to earth from the euphoria of Spain in May after they were battered by Bayern Munich 6-1 in a chastising opening Bundesliga fixture at home where they were 5-0 down at the break.

How the bookies view it

The Spaniards are warm favourites at 5/11 with SBK and the Germans are big outsiders at 6/1 with UniBet and the draw is 15/4 with Paddy Power.

Recent head to heads

The clubs have only met once…but the match remains are arguably one of the greatest football matches of all time and it took place in Glasgow.

Real Madrid and Eintract met in the 1960 European Cup Final and the 7-3 win for the Alfredo Di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas-inspired Spaniards was an absolute masterclass at Hampden.

Players to watch

There's a very good argument that Karim Benzema is currently the best player in the world just now and he was unstoppable last season as his 27 goals in 31 Le Liga appearances show.
But he is only 8/13 to score anytime in Finland with bet365.

Rafael Borre was the hero for the Frankfurt side last season and the Colombian star is 3/1 to score on Wednesday with the same firm.

Anything else catch the eye?

There's an argument that Eintracht could catch Real cold because they haven't played any competitive matches, but the mood in the Eintracht camp must have taken a serious hammering following that opening day pumping and there does look to be a gulf in quality between the sides.

Real usually give you chances though and Eintracht can oblige. With Real too short to back on its own and no pressure here, there is no reason why there won't be goals and the obvious call is a Real win with both teams to score at 21/10 with bet365.

And while no one is expecting another 10-goal thriller like 62 years ago, Real could easily win this quite comfortably, just as Bayern did last week. Real Madrid -1 on the handicap at 6/5 with UniBet looks a shout.
