There’s a local derby in Madrid on Friday to kick off the latest round of fixtures in La Liga. Rayo Vallecano and Getafe both need to win to boost their European hopes.
Both sides have fallen back in that particular race in recent weeks, although with eight places set to be rewarded with European qualification, it’s not over for either of these clubs.
Rayo Vallecano have been hit by a few injuries over the past couple of months which has highlighted some of the flaws that exist in this squad. They’ve taken just one point from their last four games, and were well beaten by Atletico Madrid last time out.
Getafe’s revival in the early part of 2025 has also slowed considerably, with three straight defeats. They can still take great confidence from their away form though, with eight wins from 11 competitive road games so far this calendar year.
How the bookies view it: Hosts favoured in Vallecas
The bookies make Rayo Vallecano the favourites at 29/20 to win this game, however it’s clear that all three outcomes are very plausible here. Getafe can be backed to win at 5/2, but the value may lie with the draw which is available at 19/10 with BoyleSports, especially given three of the last four games in Vallecas have ended level.
Recent head-to-head: Draws the norm
The recent head-to-head record between these clubs also suggests that we could see this game finish all square. Five of the last six meetings have finished level, and there have been four goalless encounters during that time, with this particular Madrid derby rarely serving up many goals.
Players to watch: Terrats the dangerman
Neither of these sides are blessed with any truly prolific strikers, but the visitors can at least look to Ramon Terrats to provide some attacking spark. The 24-year-old has scored four goals in his last three away games, courtesy of braces against both Osasuna and Real Valladolid.
Predicted Lineups
The home team are missing both Augusto Batalla and Andrei Ratiu to suspension. That’ll mean a change in goal with Dani Cardenas coming in, while they are still missing key centre-back Abdul Mumin to injury.
The visitors are also hampered by two suspensions, with Alvaro Rodriguez and Christantus Uche sidelined. Keeper David Soria is also an injury doubt, and the same goes for full-backs Allan Nyom and Diego Rico.
Rayo Vallecano: Cardenas, Chavarria, Ciss, Lejeune, Balliu, Gumbau, Diaz, Palazon, A. Garcia, Nteka, De Frutos.
Getafe: Soria, Iglesias, Alderete, Duarte, Djene, Arambarri, Milla, Bernat, Coba, Terrats, Juanmi.
Anything else catch the eye?
It’s quite hard to see where the goals will come from in this game, particularly in the first half. Just 38% of Rayo’s home league goals have come before the break, while only 29% of Getafe’s away goals have been scored before the interval in La Liga this term.
Also taking into account the very low-scoring nature of this fixture in recent years, backing there to be no first-half goals at 13/10 with William Hill may be worth considering.
You can also get odds of 6/5 with BoyleSports for the match to finish with under 1.5 goals in total.
