Having stumbled in recent weeks, PSG will be seeking a reaction when they host Lille in a Ligue 1 fixture on Sunday.
PSG head into Sunday’s clash off the back of three straight defeats across all competitions. They are still top of Ligue 1 but their lead has now been cut to five points.
PSG suffered a 3-1 defeat at Monaco in their previous Ligue 1 fixture, although it was a much-changed squad. They had the full compliment of their team in their midweek Champions League fixture but were still beaten 1-0 by German side Bayern Munich.
The good thing for PSG is that all their last two domestic defeats have come on the road and they return to the Parc des Princes, where they are yet to taste defeat in Ligue 1 this season. Christophe Galtier’s men have won eight of their last nine matches in front of their fans.
Although Lille do not have European distractions this season, they have still struggled to find their best form so far. They are a long way away from title contention, sitting fifth on the table, 13 points off the pace.
Lille have attempted to put together a decent run in recent weeks and are currently on a three match unbeaten run in Ligue 1. Paulo Fonseca’s men have won the last two in that run and claimed a 2-0 victory over Strasbourg last time put with Jonathan David netting a brace.
Lille have been slightly erratic on their recent travels with two wins and as many defeats in their last five away marches in Ligue 1. However, one of those wins came in their previous fixture on the road as they claimed a 3-1 victory at Rennes.
How the bookies view it
Despite their recent struggles, PSG are still considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies at 8/13 with William Hill. A victory for Lille is valued at 17/4 by bet365 while a draw is set at odds of 10/3 by Unibet.
Head to head
PSG have a 29-14 advantage with 15 draws from 58 previous matches with Lille. The Parisians have won the last three meetings and picked up a 7-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in August with Kylian Mbappe netting a hat-trick while Neymar and Lionel Messi were also on target.
Players to watch
Having only featured off the bench against Bayern Munich, Kylian Mbappe is expected to start on Sunday as he looks to add to his 13 League 1 goals this season. The striker netted a hat-trick in the reverse fixture and is priced at 6/5 with bet365 to get on the score sheet.
One of the shining lights for Lille this season is Jonathan David, who is their leading scorer with 14 Ligue 1 goals. The forward will be the one to watch for the visitors and is priced at odds of 12/5 by Unibet to find the net on Sunday.
Anything else catch the eye?
PSG and Lille have plenty of quality in attack and having produced over 4.5 goals in their last two meetings, a repeat could be on the cards at 19/5 with BetVictor. Over 3.5 can also be considered at 6/4 with bet365 who is also offering 8/13 for over 2.5 goals.
The Parisians are priced at minimal odds for a straight victory, so a win and over 2.5 goals could be considered for more value at 13/10 with bet365. The champions have also scored in both halves in the last two meetings with Lille and could be set for a repeat at 11/8 with BoyleSports.
