Blackburn Rovers will be desperate to rekindle their slim hopes of a promotion playoff finish as they travel to Preston North End for a Monday night Championship fixture. Preston have done some of their best work at home lately and will be confident of getting past the struggling visitors.
Preston North End were the unfortunate victims of Fulham’s promotion party as they were beaten 3-0 by the Cottagers in midweek. They proved to be no match for the league leaders and barely offered any threat, finishing with just two attempts on target.
Manager Ryan Lowe will want to put that result into perspective as that was Preston’s first defeat in their last four matches. Sitting 15th on the table, they are unlikely to secure a top 10 place but will be keen to end the season as high as possible.
Deepdale is where Preston North End have done some of their best work lately as they are unbeaten in their last five matches. They have claimed three wins in that run, including a 2-1 victory over promotion chasing Bournemouth.
A season that promised so much at the start appears to be ending with a whimper as Blackburn Rovers look set to miss out on the playoffs. Sitting three points off the top six, they still have a realistic chance but their recent form offers little hope of breaking in.
Blackburn’s struggles came on the heels of a lengthy injury to Ben Brereton and although the striker has returned, their form has not improved. They travel to Preston with just one win in their last nine matches, losing five times in that run, including a 1-0 home defeat to Stoke City last time out.
Things appear to be worse for Blackburn Rovers on their travels as they are winless in their last nine away matches. Tony Mowbray’s men have suffered six defeats in that run and were beaten 2-1 by relegation threatened Peterborough United in their previous fixture on the road.
