Norway Women will look to seal top spot in Group A in the Women’s Euro Championship as they take on fellow Nordic nation Iceland Women in Thun on Thursday night.
The Norway Women have already sealed their place in the knockout stages, as they have won both of their opening two matches in Group A.
Gemma Grainger’s side kicked off their Euro 2025 campaign by coming from a goal down to defeat hosts Switzerland, before scoring a late winner against Finland last time out to help land a 10/3 winner for our man Vladimir.
Iceland, on the other hand, have already been eliminated in this tournament after losing both of their opening two group matches.
Thorsteinn Halldorsson’s side were beaten 0-1 by Finland in their opening match in Group A, before losing 2-0 to hosts Switzerland, confirming their bottom place finish.
How the bookies view it: Three from three for Norway
The bookies have installed NorwayWomen as favourites, with BoyleSports pricing them at 6/5 to maintain their 100% record in Group A.
Iceland Women are 15/8 underdogs with the same firm to get their first win of the tournament, whilst the draw is 23/10.
Head to head: Successive stalemates
These two nations faced each other in the Nations League in April and May, with both matches finishing in a draw (0-0 & 1-1).
Players to watch: Hegerberg on the hunt for more goals
Ada Hegerberg has scored 50 goals across her opening 93 caps for her country. The latest of those came in their opening day win over Switzerland, and the Lyon forward is 6/4 at BoyleSports to score here.
Karolina Vilhjalmsdottir scored four goals in Iceland’s recent Nations League campaign, including a hat trick over Switzerland. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is 11/4 at BoyleSports to get on the scoresheet here.
Predicted line-ups:
With the Norwegian Women already qualified, Gemma Grainger will decide whether to stick with her winning XI or rotate her squad.
Iceland will have midfielder Hildur Antonsdottir available for this one after she missed the defeat to Switzerland after getting sent off in the group opener against Finland.
Norway Women: Fiskerstrand, Bjelde, Harviken, Hansen, Lund, Risa, Engen, Hansen, Maanum, Reiten, Hegerberg
Iceland Women: Runarsdottir, Arnadottir, Viggosdottir, Sigurdardottir, Arnardottir, Eiriksdottir, Brynjarsdottir, Johannsdottir, Jonsdottir, Vilhjalmsdottir, Jessen
Anything else catch the eye?
As already alluded to, these two nations played out a couple of draws in the Nations League during April and May, with both matches going Under 2.5 Goals (0-0 & 1-1).
Iceland’s two fixtures at this tournament have also produced just three goals, with them still to score themselves, and with Norway wanting to seal top spot, I’m going to back them to nick a low-scoring encounter.
Interestingly, there has been an own goal scored in both of Norway Women’s opening matches in Group A, and given Iceland scored an own goal in their most recent meeting in May, I’m willing to have a speculative punt on us seeing another one in Thun on Thursday, which pays 10/1 at Bet365 in the specials section.
